Upwards & onwards - YoinkTober Day 8 - in which the Queen of Attolia is cold & wet but also thoroughly het up with Outrage at the Sheer Effrontery of the Thief in abducting her, then proposing marriage of all things! She now has no choice but to go onwards and upwards to an unknown fate. (She does not yet know that she has had all of the knives she keeps on her person stolen by the Thief.)

I've just realized I never shared my entry for last year's Hamiathes Gift Exchange! I gifted this to SpaceJackalope, who asked for fashion headcanons. I wish I had had more time to work on it and polish it more, but now that some time has passed, I find I do like this a lot. I should have a print-and-cut friendly version.. maybe another time!

i am re-reading the thief and one thing i adore is how the book takes pains to establish gen as uncool up front. he starts off in prison, and it is not sexy. he has sores, he is weak from lack of exercise, he stinks. he's there because he loudly confessed to a crime in front of a bunch of witnesses. he is genuinely afraid of the magus's threats. he leaves prison and immediately is crying, snot streaming down his face crying, because he hasn't seen direct sunlight in so long and his eyes hurt. he's going to be your favorite most badass character of all time, but he first we have to establish that he's pretty lame, just to balance things out.
