the wardens still remained somewhat of a mystery to the inquisitor beyond the reputation that they had across thedas, known mostly for their duty and... well, not much else. there was an air of unknown, and she did not expect that it would ever change. what they did was necessary and brutal work. that felt like the epitome of everything that was going on now, what their life had descended into ever since that fateful day that the sky had split open and everything they had known had been utterly derailed. still, despite her understanding of the necessity, that curiosity to know and comprehend still lingered in the pit of her belly, a feeling that was quite difficult to ignore.
"let's hope that your instincts about him are right, then. we need all the help that we can get, and it sounds like he'd be exceptionally appropriate help. the more help that we can get from the wardens, the better. there's no one more suited for this." the mark that the inquisitor bore might have indicated otherwise some, but not to ellana. she felt wildly out of her depth and having wardens around was grounding.
they listened with curiosity as maverick described his own experience that had led him to the wardens, nodding along as he spoke. she offered an empathetic smile as he related to her, the assumption not bothering her in the slightest. they weighed their own thoughts for a moment before deciding to speak.
"your assumption is accurate. i didn't ask for this - i don't have the creativity to ask for something so wild," the inquisitor responded with a light-hearted jest, not wanting the mood to sink too deep. it could very well be inevitable with what she had to ask next, however, "do you mind if i ask how you were brought in, if not of your own choice?"
