Mrs Hughes gets a makeover! Downton Abbey’s Phyllis Logan is effortlessly elegant in midnight blue as she hits the red carpet at the SAG Awards

She’s known for her role as dowdy housekeeper Mrs Hughes in Downton Abbey.

But Phyllis Logan looked worlds away from the servants’ quarters as she hit the red carpet at the prestigious Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Casting aside her simple maid’s clothing in favour of a stunning midnight blue number, the 57-year-old actress looked effortlessly elegant as she joined her co-stars and the great and good of the film and television worlds for the annual ceremony at the Shrine Auditorium.

Logan teamed her stylish gown with a dazzling diamond necklace and showstopping pearl drop earrings as she hit the red carpet.

The actress completed her look with a dramatic beehive hairstyle and a slick of dramatic red lipstick.

And it would seem her efforts were worthwhile, with the actress being centre stage when it was announced Downton Abbey had beat off stiff competition from the likes of Mad Men, Homeland and Boardwalk Empire to bag the prestigious ensemble in a drama series prize.

With the entire cast visibly shocked at hearing the news, Logan seemed particularly astounded as she took to the stage to accept the award.

She said: ‘We were so not expecting this. Shut the French windows, honestly!
