HIII okay. i will try to keep it to a fact or two bc i could talk about this all fuckin day!! spillways is the larger universe that working hard at follow through takes place in, which posits an alternative dark choco healing arc + eventually sprawls out to most of the cookies of darkness defecting, and the effects it has on the story continuing from hollyberry kingdom or so. the projected end of the "main" story is the end of dark cacao's storyline, though there are a whole buncha side stories + a cookie run odyssey plotline i've been rolling around. dark cacao's storyline focuses a lot more on plot threads i thought it dropped the ball on - namely how bad this man has been fucking up his kingdom in his grief, and the fascinating implications of the ruined villages (licorice!!! licorice!!! i think about it all the time!!!) and, of course, what happens if dark choco is there. from my notes:
the main bit of ch 14's emotional beat is definitely, i think, both. dark cacao's no good very bad soul-jam-worsened illusory time & also a bit more focus on hey dark cacao your maladaptive coping mechanisms have screwed your kingdom over just a bit tfw your paranoia is justified by the licorice sea attack but also it isnt at all!!
spillways 3 is my favorite to talk about because it goes the most off the rails (pom & de get to pull a lot of fun horror bullshit & also evil wlw bullshit, because by that point they're the only cookies of darkness left) but spillways 2 cannot be discounted. it's a heist fic about red velvet & his relationship to dark enchantress, strawberry crepe's Revenge Of The Ten Year Old, and poison mushroom missing their older brother and i think about it often
