the older i get the more attention i receive from very young men. this is the inverse of what happened when i was the age those men are now and is corroborated by the experiences of feminine-presenting people pushing thirty and older (exhibit a: the "auntie likes the strap" poster from twitter). hence the idea of "the wall" is a complete fiction. MRAs btfo as usual. the attention is undeniably flattering but is also the sexual equivalent of being bothered by mosquitos while you're trying to enjoy the outdoors.
typical quotes from my dad, volume 1:
"when women have small noses it makes them look unserious."
"tabby cats have the hunter's temperament."
"when men are so bald that it makes their heads shiny it looks unnatural. they should leave a bit to cover the shininess. humans were meant to have hair."
"is this middle C?" (while listening to a song that's not even close to being in the key of C)
“Teachers are often unaware of the gender distribution of talk in their classrooms. They usually consider that they give equal amounts of attention to girls and boys, and it is only when they make a tape recording that they realize that boys are dominating the interactions. Dale Spender, an Australian feminist who has been a strong advocate of female rights in this area, noted that teachers who tried to restore the balance by deliberately ‘favouring’ the girls were astounded to find that despite their efforts they continued to devote more time to the boys in their classrooms. Another study reported that a male science teacher who managed to create an atmosphere in which girls and boys contributed more equally to discussion felt that he was devoting 90 per cent of his attention to the girls. And so did his male pupils. They complained vociferously that the girls were getting too much talking time. In other public contexts, too, such as seminars and debates, when women and men are deliberately given an equal amount of the highly valued talking time, there is often a perception that they are getting more than their fair share. Dale Spender explains this as follows: “The talkativeness of women has been gauged in comparison not with men but with silence. Women have not been judged on the grounds of whether they talk more than men, but of whether they talk more than silent women.” In other words, if women talk at all, this may be perceived as ‘too much’ by men who expect them to provide a silent, decorative background in many social contexts.”

Every EVERY women’s studies class I’ve been in has had this problem and failed to address it.

thought i could handle the extra strong soybean paste because i love fermented food but instead it handed me my ass. the bathroom floor is a surprisingly comfortable place to lie down while you're waiting for your guts to finish roiling.

filthy, filthy read
i think i've finally figured out how to get a blowout to last on my fine, "frizzy" (read: disorganized curl pattern) and bleach-damaged hair! this is a lot of work up-front, but the result lasts for a while and got me a lot of compliments on my secretly dull and damaged hair.
some time before showering, apply a few drops of hair oil to your ends. i don't care for the "hair oils" marketed as such bc they're overpriced silicone mixtures, so i use a DIY herb infusion with argan oil, olive oil, castor oil, and coconut oil. any of those will do, though castor oil is sticky at room temperature and should be mixed in small quantities with a less viscous oil. camellia/tsubaki oil is also traditionally a good hair oil but it's expensive.
optional: apply whatever exfoliating or descaling scalp treatment you want. these are popular in the east asian beauty market.
brush your hair before showering, while it's dry and coated with oil.
shower as normal, making sure to leave your conditioner in your hair for at least a few minutes. right now i'm using some "bond-building" shampoo and conditioner set with lots of amodimethicone and amino acids. i don't think the exact products matter as long as the conditioning ingredients and surfactants work for your hair.
wrap wet hair in microfiber towel and leave it on for 5-10 minutes.
to the lengths apply a leave-in conditioning spray (i use the K18 heat protectant) a small amount of light-hold gel like the paul mitchell invisible hold gel, and one drop of the hair oil. brush to distribute. i also like to apply a leave-in scalp treatment at this step.
blowdry phase one: using the coolest setting with the "concentrator"/flat nozzle attachment, blowdry hair straight by brushing the roots up with a paddle brush and directing the air flow at them. this takes a while, even if you section your hair. to dry the back i flip my head over. stop when hair is about 80% dry.
blowdry phase 2: using a round brush and the medium heat setting, style hair as desired. i have a fuckass bob so i either do curling iron-style loose waves or a 90's gillian anderson blowout.
when hair is dry and styled, lightly spray dry shampoo at the roots. this is the key step. section the hair so you get all the spots that get greasy.
finish with a light misting of hairspray. i use the one from colourwow bc a stylist used it once and i liked it.
10 steps, 6 products counting shampoo and conditioner, two brushes, and one knockoff Dyson blowdryer later, you now have Nice Hair that will last for a few days if you don't do anything too sweaty. congrarts.
