Dirty Laundry || College!AU || Open to anyone!
"…What’s the bloody difference?" a disgruntled-looking boy with black hair griped to himself, glaring at the various knobs and dials on the washing machine before him. Why should it matter whether he washed his clothes in hot or cold water? What was a ‘Super Wash’? Where was the detergent—you were supposed to use that, right? And most importantly, how did you turn this damn thing on?
Loki slumped over the washing machine with a defeated posture, an overflowing basket of laundry sitting on the dryer beside him. The laundry room in his dorm building was currently empty, and it was a good thing, too—he’d hate to be seen struggling over this simple task that most people apparently had no trouble with. Especially as it was early in the year, and he hoped to establish a good image at this school. How did they all seem to know this? Perhaps he should have looked it up. All in all, the struggling student was so busy muttering irritably to himself, fiddling with the knobs, and sulking, he didn’t notice another person entering the room.
America stifled a yawn as she transferred her dirty laundry from her plastic basket and into a mesh bag. Saying it was her laundry was fairly liberal, seeing that Kate's clothes often wound up in her things and some of her own articles were stolen--"borrowed, 'Merica."--by her dormmate. Quietly, she slipped out the the room with headphones jammed into her ears and the bag over her shoulder. Washing clothes first thing in the morning meant most college students were on their way to classes or sleeping off a hangover, leaving the machines open and the room quiet.
She inhaled the comforting smell of fabric softener as she stepped into the room, eyes locking onto a pathetic, slumped over student. America's eyebrow rose as she wordlessly took an open washing machine, placing a few coins in the slot. She focused on separating the lights and darks then adding the detergent she'd placed in her bag and thought nothing of the student till she realized he hadn't progressed since she'd arrived. America shut the lid and took out the headphones. "Machine broken? They'll refund you if it is."
