True country living. We loved building this yellow farm house in the country, set atop a hillside with an amazing view of the surrounding terrain of twisted oak trees and golden grasses.
This home features a white and yellow themed kitchen with a comfy dinning nook set into a bay window. The area flows nicely into an open social room with a stone fire place that stretches to the second stories vaulted ceilings.
Another lovely Lawson home.
Short time lapse of churning clouds at sunset taken from a Lawson home on the mountain side of Manzanita Estates over looking the historic town of Mariposa, CA and the rolling Sierra Nevada Nevada foothills.
We have such an amazing home at the doorstep of Yosemite National Park.
Stunning in red kitchen remodel before and after.
We loved this project! Completed in just 7 weeks, this kitchen remodel features ruby red Ceasarstone quartz countertops, white cabinets with smoked glass doors, a shimmering silver and grey back splash and a large white farm sink. We were able to save the original floor and tie it in with the new look by matching shades of the backsplash to the subtle greys in the floor.

Great bathroom storage design.
The upcoming tiny house documentary film Small is Beautiful has proclaimed itself to be “not about tiny house porn"…
…but apparently there is some serious book porn in their promo video for these indie notebooks. The process short-film is repleat with sultry syncopation by a 60 year old letter press, an offset print press and other cool vintage industrial items which form a backdrop for the warm smiles of independent artist Melissa Rachel Black and master publisher Ellery Harvey of Scout Books as they wax passionate about their processes.
So, if you like process short-films you may dig it.
Tiny house documentary coming!
Love this stone shower with tiled floor and wood bench.
Amazing views at sunset on the mountain top above the historic town of Mariposa, just a short drive away from Yosemite National Park.
This Lawson built home is currently for sale.
We love returning to see how our clients have turned their Lawson built house into a home. The courtyard in this Early California Ranch style home looks like a paradise escape from reality with landscape grown in.
The warm colors of the brick patio and roof tiles compliment the lush greens of the flora. A soft trickling sound from the water fountain adds to the ambiance of the space. Custom built entry gate doors built in our cabinet shop top off the Early California Ranch style feel.

Sliding doors seem to be trending lately. What do you think of this design?

…unique for its ability to be reconfigured by the owners in project and also post-delivery. The interior walls consist of lightweight panels that can be easily relocated or removed by two people. Several years have been spent refining the concept in order to arrive at a finished product that would be quick to manufacture, easy to assemble, of good quality and affordable.
The interior wall system consists of frames that are snapped into place in […] tracks. As a result, the rooms can be expanded or reduced in increments of 1.5 m. Finish panels are then attached to both sides of the wall frames.
…the decor of the house can be changed just by flipping the [wood veneer] panels over. Similar panels can be used to cover the windows as needed for privacy or to block out unwanted sunlight and views.
What do you think of this? Movable walls that allow you to recreate your livable space anytime you wish.

Think Green Before You Build
Here are a few things to consider before you dive into your green home project:
Start at the Site - A building site should be strategically planned to minimize environmental impact by preserving as much of the natural vegetation as possible, while simultaneously maximizing natural surroundings to increase energy efficiency of the future building. For example deciduous trees provide shade for your home in the summer and allow light through in the winter.
Building Orientation - Set up your building site to maximize southern exposure in order to utilize passive solar techniques such as daylighting as well as maximum sun exposure for solar systems.
Materials - Research your material options. There are many options available. Look for sustainable and local lumber sources, recycled materials for counter-tops etc. Source as much material as you can from local resources to cut down on fossil fuels used in shipping etc.
And don't forget to ask your local contractor how you can green your project.
Below are few great resources to help you dig a little deeper into the world of green building. There is so much to learn!

A Blast From the Past - Country Home Exploration
Set on a hilltop over looking oak trees and an adorable red barn in the small town of Mariposa, California, this home is the perfect example of charming country living. We built this home back in 2005, and it was such a pleasure to return and visit years later.
Upon my arrival owner, Channa greeted me with a welcoming smile as I pulled into the drive. She kindly gave me a tour around her home.
Curious sheep watched as I explored the property with Channa, listening to her stories of building her home and enjoying the natural landscape. Chickens scattered as we approached the little red barn complete with a unique elephant weather vane set with pride on top. Maple trees, a vegetable garden set off to the side of the home and fresh strawberries ready to be picked added to the authentic country feel.
Channa reminisced over stories of working with Dave Lawson, owner of Lawson Construction to design the small red barn she loves so much. The humble design turned out perfect for her needs and the family of sheep are right at home. Channa smiled as she shared stories about her home and all the amazing family visits and good times well spent under its roof. It truly is her dream home.
It's stories like this that make us so happy to build homes. What a wonderful experience it was to return and see how the house we built had become a home.
