sirius black's first true, well-meaning birthday gift was a homemade card from remus lupin

remus spent hours on the card. perfecting the canis major constellation on the front, and the little cartoon wolf on the inside. he waffled over the message for days, not wanting to sound too generic, but also not to sappy. in the end he settled on something perfectly in the middle.

remus shook as he gave the card to sirius, cheeks burning from embarrassment. he couldn't afford the bundles of zonkos pranks like james or the flashy new wizards chess set from peter. this measly card was all he had.

in the end it didn't matter because sirius declared that this card was the best gift he had ever gotten, and that no one had ever taken the time to hand-make him a gift before (and if there were a few tears shed no one mentioned them)
