An otgw inspired portrait of the eom crew from my former crooked moon campaign :)
Maybe it is obvious but at the same time is it? Stryga is so interesting
Alexi says "my people came from coravachia a long time ago". My people i assume just means people of barovia. Which is interesting since barogoa feels older than coravachia due to well. Mists and all the cos crap. And i would LOVE to know what caused the people we know as barovians to flee from coravachia or separate from it (depending on the history of skethranil). Civil war mayhaps? Inch! Resting!
Personal thoughts are that Stradanya carved a path into whatever country(ies) the valley of Barovia was in before and settled it as a stronghold for Coravachia and when her parents died and Sergi died that kinda collapsed the monarchy in Coravachia and they lost a bunch of land to the other empires. She was a warlord and I think they do mention her conquering land plus with the presence of Dusk Elves and Orc burial grounds we can kinda get an idea of where Barovia is. As well as the push and pull of borders in Stryga. While the elves and orcs are part of the module, it is really great subtle world building on Mikey's part.
i HAAAAATE self-sacrifice as a redemptive action. you didnt redeem shit!!! you just died!!!
t-shirt that says DONT SACRIFICE YOURSELF FOR ME! I WILL KILL YOU!
Fake ass old man
I actually saw florence and the machine live this week (I bought the ticket the day before the show) and it was an Experience so chapter 4 of even the fire is now being conceived followed in short order by chapter 4 of softer harder (virbea fic). y'all will receive within the week 👍👍👍

Bdw spoilers for 38 or whatever ep it was its one of those ones
So its 5am and i just went. Oooooh so remember how virgil as godrick had that ox?? Lockheart????? Wouldnt it be fun if lockheart was rook?????
And then i remembered rook isnt canon 😔😔😔😔😔
Rook 😔😔😔😔😔
I have actually thought about this too
Maybe he gets a Talon Guard wizard or something to create a polymorph scroll that he uses to transform Rook
You know how I said about him using the Beast Speech eldritch invocation to have a conversation with him? He could ask him if it's okay with him to be an ox for a bit so he doesn't freak out too bad... not that I think that would faze our boy. He's probably been through some shit with Virgil.
But why give him a fake name too?!?!!? Maybe Rook is as famous/infamous as Virgil himself?!?!?! So that nothing could possibly be traced back to Virgil?!??!
😮💨 Alas he's just an original horse character we made up because Virgil deserves nice things and he should get to live his best horse girl life with a trusty companion/steed
More thoughts re: Rook, and Virgil being an equestrian (forgive me if this has been talked about before sometimes my brain is a sponge sometimes it's a collander) *Disclaimer: I know fuck all about horses or horseback riding so if someone more knowledgeable were to chime in and correct me I'd be all for that
Rook probably wasn't the first horse Virgil ever rode, presumably he learned to ride with whatever horses the (googles something real quick) military equitation experts at the Citadel had on hand. Do we think he learned before or after the arm-severing? That could complicate things because as I researched for my fic, traditionally you mount from the left, and Virgil doesn't have use of his left arm (at least most of the time in my hc if not canonically). Do you think he had to use stairs to get onto horseback, or would he insist on learning to do it himself? There's so much there with his disability and how it could have impacted this big of a part of him.
Is horseback riding a requirement for basic troops in the Coravachian military or did he just take to it and remained insistent on learning??
Collander brains unite!
The concept of rook being as known as virgil makes me so happy. There goes the high general his fuckass six eyed raven and his horse. This is so off topic but imagine asking him about the names of his animals. He goes no i cant say the name of my bird she doesnt like it... and my horses name is rook 👍👍 idk just funny to me. Perhaps virgil is just mildly entertained by fake names 😭 And rahh this is very interesting. I dont think horse riding would be something required? Especially if youre sent to eyrios youre probably not going to much with a horse. Tho from what i remember the orcs were riding on different beasts so.... horses would be a good choice no? God i really dont know how horse riding would have started for virgil but either way he was determined to make it work with his arm later.
I did a bit of horse riding in my life i can def see that someone thats physically strong (not me! But def virgil) could mount a horse without having to use both arms. If he can hold a huge fuck off sword he can hold on to a saddle. Its more a matter of core strength and leg strength probably..... and when it comes to riding itself it does rely on the language of the entire body. I honestly think that its one of the activities that virgil would have adapted to very well if it was a skill he initially learned pre pazu gate.
Its 2026, year of the horse, we should not only indulge but give fictional men even more fictional horses. Rook is real to me and the idea of virgil having a horse companion he loves and takes on his pandemic spreading quest is incredibly charming to me.
Tho it is slightly funny to imagine lockheart as its own creature. Virgil gets three pets. As a treat. Four if we count brad- i mean what who said that.
I actually know a bit about horses and the military. Did research for a paladin of mine.
Yeah, Virgil would have 100% had a horse. Probably not one as large as you guys are thinking. But vibes and fantasy hand waving means we ignore that.
Based off geography and everything I'd imagine they'd be built like an Axios horse (which was one of two horse breeds we think could have been Alexander the Great's horse) or breeds found in mongolia and the Apps. Shorter legs, very stocky, a big beefy boy.
But historically speaking horses were used very often by the military, see the cavalry specifically. Horses and cattle were also vital for moving supplies across large distances. (We see this in BDW actually. The Wings are transported to the Erios bordier in a horse drawn cart)
And given how magic and magic users work in DND having a mage unit on horse back is both 100% possible and probably advisable. So Virgil, as a warlock, probably would have been in one of these units and learned how to ride one handed in combat through the military. I think this is also supported in BDW by Furman's dislike of magic users because they aren't normally on the front lines, like calvary men and archers weren't historically speaking.
So yeah, Virgil learning to ride via the military is more than likely.
I actually have the personal headcanon that Talon Guard all learned to ride horses, partly because of everything mentioned.
Ayo. More dad that stepped up content. Milo got ice cream and many art supplies for having to put up with his nerd dad and nerd brother. Hooray!
