So I read all 12 pages of comments in the news post, all of the recent aywas confessions, and I have to say, /usually/ I don’t say much. I don’t get involved in this drama (therefore staying anon), but I have to say this.
Lets think about all of the recent drama. Maybe in a different way.
Guys. Aywas is a really special place. It’s a really unique site, and the only one I know of as far that lets the users have as much involvement that they have. We can submit our own content, we can hold our own events, we can share our creations with the entire community.
On the specific topic of commissions, any user can submit art to Aywas and get paid for it. Anyone. This isn’t the same as just getting random commissions on deviantart. Aywas gives so much opportunity and motivation to aspiring artists, and it really helps more established artist make a living doing what they love. And where else on the internet does this happen? (seriously, if you know a place, let us know, because I’m sure that there are lots of artist who be interested).
As a community, we are the foundation that supports this, and Aywas is the site that helps to make this happen. The commissions panel is one of those features that gives artists the opportunity, compared to most other websites that just don’t let user make USD period. The commission panel helps Aywas as a site and as a community. For everyone who says that it’s just money-grubbing, what other site even offers an opportunity close to what Aywas offers to all it’s artists and users?
I understand that recent events regarding the “unfair” bannings of users over art commissions not using the commissions panel is causing a lot of concern and rage. I don’t want to judge and say if the banning are unfair or not. I have no evidence myself of what happened, but honestly the truth could be anything. But without full disclosure of what went on that determined the ban, it’s impossible to deduce who is right and who is wrong.
And that also means that it is impossible for YOU to judge who is right or wrong because you also have no evidence for either case.
So I’m not really hearing any convincing cases of anything besides a shitstorm of insults from both sides (the users who support the staff and the users who support the banned users).
((and to clarify, the previous statement is not stating anything about the fairness of the TOS. That’s a whole other issue. I’m addressing the rage and blame game that’s going on.))
On a similar topic, I’d like to address everyone who believes that the site is going to hell, who says they are considering leaving, who spreads negativity about the site, who blames the staff, and/or who blames the users.
Actually, I think I’d just like to address everyone.
Aywas is a community that we as a userbase have helped to grow and maintain since the very beginning. Not all of us have been here for the whole time, but some of us have. Some of us have come and go and others have stayed, relentless.
But to most of us here, Aywas is a unique and valuable part of our lives. We may play it to collect, to create content, to adventure, or just to chat, but we’ve built a dynamic site together.
So I challenge you, to stop being negative, and to stop spreading your negativity. By saying all these negative things about the site, about the staff, or about the users, you are contributing to a problem.
Yes, there might be issues in the site, yes there might be issues with the staff, yes there might even be issues with the users.
But in the end, we are what makes up this site. We create the content and the community, and it is us…it is you… that decides how we can resolve problems and continue the site. We can choose to take the recent events cynically and proclaim that everything is at it’s end, or we can choose to think more positively. To understand the rules that were confusing in the past, push staff for clearer updates, and not make the same mistakes. If you think there is a problem with how the site is run, post in the suggestions/ideas thread with a solution. If you support an idea, support it on that thread, so staff can see it’s a pressing issue that people care about.
This doesn’t have to be the end of anything. Aywas isn’t perfect, but it can get better. So let’s help with improving things, rather than just complaining about them. Let’s clarify things and work together again, k?
