For once enrolment was actually organised really well! Well Done LCC! :D
After enrolment Tony took us to Northern Monk Brewery to see our first exhibition space.Â
Figure 1. Northern Monk Brewery
âOn October 1st, and for one night only, degree students from the Art Enterprise, Photography, Dance and Performance courses at Leeds City College take over Number 2, the current exhibition of staff work being held upstairs at the Northern Monk Refectory.â - Tony Baker
COUP D'ĂTAT Thursday October 1st . 6.00 pm - 8.30 pm
NORTHERN MONK REFECTORY The Old Flax Store, Marshalls Mill, Leeds, LS11 9YJ
Our contribution (art enterprise students) will be to produce pieces of work on 1.5 x 2.3m polythene sheets. Whilst photography students and dance and performance students will work around us.Â
Our polythene pieces will be created by using ideas from our summer brief - Summer Summer Time.Â
Figure 2. Perception
This was a collaborative piece with lcckateplenty
It was based around perception and how we all perceive things differently in the world around is. This was photography based. We went round Leeds Docks and stood in the same place but took a photo of we each focused on the most.Â
For example we were both stood near a bridge and lcckateplenty noticed the whole bridge. Were as I noticed the how blue the sky was that day. She took a photo of the bridge and I took a photo of the sky.Â
We did this until we had a series of 5 photos.Â
For the crit. with tutors/ students we presented it as above.
Figure 3. Unspoken Words
The above piece is a continuation from end of year ones exhibition piece.
Unspoken Words is about the communication my grandma had with me and my mum or the lack of it in a way. Over summer she broke her elbow and shoulder and its stopped her from being able to speak properly. When I went to visit her and she was trying to tell me something it was hard to understand so I asked her if she wanted to write it down. I gave her a pen and some paper and she began to write, at first I thought she was writing what she wanted to say but in the end it turned into a long paragraph which she signed. She tried to tell me what she was writing but only a few words were said. I have tried to decipher what she has written but as her writing is old fashioned 1920âČs joint lettering I struggle to read it at the best of times.Â
From the piece I decided to take a picture of her writing it and then placed the finished paragraph underneath.Â
The piece is about the communication with my grandma and how she is trying to express herself so she can be heard without having to talk. As she knows what she wants to say, it just doesnât come out how she would like it to.
Iâm going to use these piece as my theme for the exhibition at Northern Monk Brewery

After going to see the exhibition space we went to Technology Campus to see our new studio space but unfortunately we didn't have access to the key but we were able to see where it was, which was useful.Â
My Role Within Blue Chair Collective
My role within the collective is a varied one
My assigned job role is to be a treasurer and to do social media along side Sian and Katie PÂ
Alongside my assigned job role I believe that I am the organised one in the collective, I believe this as everyone else always comes to me when they need to know something or how to do something
I also make sure people who are sick are kept up to date with what has been happening during that day
I also helped everyone out with materials and tools at exhibition again as I am the organised one, I prepare for all likely events which may happen.
I enjoy my role within the collective and I am looking forward to Year 2Â
Blue Chair Collectives Objectives / Identity & Aspirations of The Group
Our objective is to use everyone talents within the group to create the best finished product that we can
We are Blue Chair Collective named after our blue chairs that we have in our studio space
Personally I believe that with the right promotion and positivity we can aspire to do great things as a groupÂ
Right now I think we are just finding our feet ready for Year 2
Blue Chair Collective Development
As a collective I really think weâve bonded over the last few months and become closer!
Deer Shed is our main collective work that has been produced this year and we were all struggling so much to see the finished product, but now itâs done I couldnât be prouder of everyone!
Letâs hope the Deer Shed Festival like it!
From when we first started to build the collective I can see that we have developed dramatically as a group
We now understand each otherâs needs and requirements.
We now know how to support each other betterÂ
We know what each otherâs strengths and weaknesses areÂ
I think this will be a vital thing to know for us to do well in Year 2
Portfolio Evaluation & Discussion of Installation
When creating ideas for Portfolio I wanted to create something linking to memory and fragments of memoryÂ
I wanted to portray this in an installation
I looked at fragments of memory on line and beautiful hanging installations appeared - as you can see in the post below
I thought these were beautiful and I wanted to create something similar but with a recording in the middle of either music or my grandma talking
After much debate I decided to strip the installation back to something very simple and meaningful.Â
An installation that represented my grandma now, Simple, A Chair for the chair that she sits in every day with a wooden table next to her, her newspaper and a tissue box.Â
I then wanted to figure out a way to hide the recording so you could not see it - So I thought about disguising it within the tissue box
The tissue box that I bought was too small so I had to improvise and build one around itÂ
The piece came together great and Iâm really happy with it
As well as the installation about the fragment memory of my grandma, I wanted to create a piece about memory that we have everyday but decay over time or are just thrown away
This is what the grid Installation was to representÂ
I had worries for a while that it wasnât going to be completed in time for the exhibition but the night before I rummaged around my flat and found all sorts that iâve kept over the years that I could use - such as Cinema tickets and Train tickets etc.
I loved the grid more than the Chair installation if iâm being honest, I think it was more because I heard my grandma first hand telling me about her life and that was more valuable to me than the recording of her because I could see her facial expressions and photos.Â
I am really happy with how my whole exhibition has turned outÂ
I did want to add a book in the exhibition which contained photos of what I NOTICE but now I am glad I didn'tÂ
If I were to do anything different next time I think I would try and find even more meaningful objects for the grid and possibly a better arm chair for the recording installation

The plane now it is complete looks AMAZING!Â
There are certain bits of it which are better than others and could have had more time spent on themÂ
Everyone has worked really hard and its finally paid after weeks of thinking it was never going to come together
I love the safety leaflets Dom has created they just match his style perfectly but work great for the job and also leaves some adult humour within a child activity for the parents swell
Jess B has done such a good job with the cockpit and when its lit up looks perfect
Keri created the plane tickets and they look professional and cleanÂ
I created the trolley which isn't fully finished yet but still looks the part, I just need to sort the bottles out on the top and also add a fingerprint to one of the boxes.
The overall plane now has just come together and everyone should be really proud!
Oh and not forgetting the seat covers thanks to Lauren and Katie they look simple but effective

Figure 3. Mapping Out
The first two photos are of my daily plan for when we get into Mabgate to get our exhibition work up.
If I didn't keep organised I don't know what iâd do
The only thing about being the organised one in the group is that everyone always comes to you when they need to know a deadline or the name of something or how to do something which can be annoying sometimes, especially when you have your own work to do
I wish people were as organised as me
The third photo is of the grid installation being measured out and going up
I think it roughly took 3 hours to put in total but it was definitely worth it
I had Lauren helping me to map it out and hold the CD cases whilst I pinned them in
She was great helpÂ
We all worked as a collective to get each others work up

I run the page & try to keep the page update with any new information
It looks great at the moment with all of the Deer Shed and Exhibition work on there
I wish we had a website but we are still not any further with itÂ
