poetry is an intimate thing;
poetry is a feigned jump-scare as an excuse to jump into someone you love's arms and have them hold you closely. poetry is having them play with your hair and looking up at the popcorn ceiling to argue playfully about what we see up there, touching faces together to "see what they're seeing.” poetry is completely embarrassing yourself just to make them laugh.
poetry is an amalgamation of secret closely-kept memories; poetry is a door shut, morning creeping through the blinds, and warm blankets over you and your person before everything changes. poetry is showing them how to shuffle cards because you just learned how at your big age, and then letting you explain it to them despite already knowing just because they love you. poetry is wondering what kissing them would be like but not wanting to ruin it all.
poetry is a love still kept, an inevitable love that does not need to be brought back into the present because it will persist;
poetry is the recognition that even if it doesn't persist it can still be beautiful; poetry is a reflection of all these moments and more. poetry is whatever you want it to be; if you don't write, you'll never find out what could happen. poetry is an opportunity to try again, to think of it all once again, to take meaningful risks, to imagine a better you. poetry will kiss you when you're down and keep you safe.
poetry is beautiful, like that person you'll never see again.

1: When is a monster not a monster? Oh, when you love it.
2: I need you to be a monster / which is to say, I am trying not to love you / which is to say, I am still dreaming of kissing your claws.
3: The people who love us scratch us, […] and what is love, anyway? It’s claw marks, scratches, scars, traces someone leaves inside of you.
4: We love with claws and teeth and the blood is just proof of how much. It’s feral.
5: There are teeth marks on everything he loves.
6: I love you so much I will knock over buildings I will eat you alive
7: after we have caught love we start eating it to the bone.
8: I still don’t know how to love someone without swallowing them.
9: But the horror; the horror was for love. The things we do for love like this are ugly, mad, full of sweat and regret. This love burns you and maims you and twists you inside out. It is a monstrous love and it makes monsters of us all.
10: Love was the most savage monster of all.
