“Of course he would. I see the way Bash looks at you, Kenna, and I hear how he speaks about you. I have a feeling the only thing he needs to be happy is knowing that you are.” Bash was many things, but good at masking his emotions wasn’t one of them. Not with Mary. He never had been. Mary tilted her head, her eyebrows tugging together for the slightest moment as she offered a soft smile. “Kenna, you could not be a failure if you tried. Not to me, and not to this child.” She promised, a hand falling against her still flat belly subconsciously, her other reaching out and squeezing Kenna’s gently. “Kenna, you would be my family even if we were not sisters-in-law. That’s merely an added blessing.” Whatever her title, when it came to Kenna, and Greer and Lola for that matter, she rarely felt like a queen. When it was only the four of them, she felt like herself. Mary Stuart. Not the queen of Scotland and France. “I am so happy that you’ll be here for this.”
“I know that Bash loves me. That has never been a part of the question. That much is obvious even to myself. Loving me and having children are two different things though. I just wish he would talk to me about whatever is going on in that head of his.” It was frustrating never quite knowing where her husband’s head was, but she was just as afraid to bring it up as she was frustrated. “And you are far more biased than anyone I have in my life when it comes to seeing me. I know you could never see me as anything less than much less if I fail you.” Not that Kenna was planning on ever letting her sister or her niece or nephew down, but it wasn’t as if things couldn’t happen. She let out a happy sigh as she enveloped her best friend into her arms in a warm hug. “I know that we are family. Paperwork just helps really seal the fact that you’re stuck with me even when I annoy you.” Although she knew if Mary was ever going to get rid of her it would have been when she was with Francis’ father, and not now. A wide grin spread across her face as she slowly nodded, “I wouldn’t miss this for anything.”
