Isle of the Midnight Sun Challenge Redux
‘You wake up in the middle of a secluded island with no recollection of your life or how you ended up there. With no memory of home, or a way to return there, you have no choice but to make a new life for yourself on the Isle of the Midnight Sun.’
Goal: Survive on an empty island until the objective for the fifth generation is complete.
Packs Required: Seasons*, Get Together, Outdoor Retreat, and Jungle Adventure (* = not 100% required, see overview)
Details under the cut!
Setup
Create a YA sim; appearance, traits, and aspirations are all up to you and you may optionally create a pet if you’d like
Move into the 20x20 lot on the island in Windenburg, evict all of your neighbors and bulldoze all lots on the island so you’re the only inhabitant
At this point you may decorate your home lot with extra greenery as well as some basics
Cheat your funds down to $3,000 by opening the console and entering ‘money 3000’
Make sure aging is turned on, set to normal, and that seasons are set to 1 week in length*, then you should be ready to go!
General Overview: In addition to adding objectives to each generation, this version of the midnight sun challenge also adds a few new game mechanics.
Festivals: There a ‘festivals’ held during the last 2 days of every season and serve as a chance for your household to meet sims that aren’t family. You can choose to travel Granite Falls or Selvadorada but that choice is entirely up to you, and you can visit a different destination for every festival if you’d like. With Seasons I highly recommend that you add the festivals to your calendar, but if you don’t have it you could also just keep track of your days and make sure that you leave Saturday morning and return Monday morning. However, festivals aren’t mandatory and can be skipped.
Lot Expansion: Some generations require that you move to a new lot or utilize an old one. You can move lots using the normal system, but for generation 3, you can use the retail system to purchase a lot even though you’re just using it as a garden. If you don’t own a pack that includes a retail lot system, you can just make the lot generic and decorate it over time, deducting funds from your household whenever you spend money on the generic lot
Heirs: Most generations require a specific heir from the previous generation, but if it doesn’t feel free to pick whichever heir you’d like.
General Rules: Cheats and mods that make the challenge easier are strictly against the rules, but cosmetic cheats are fair game. No aging items can be used at any point during the challenge. Additionally, your sims may not leave the island or interact with sims outside of their family unless they’re at a festival. This means that none of your sims can have traditional jobs or go to school and they’re not allowed to go to the hospital to give birth. All traits must be randomised for children unless otherwise noted by the objective for that generation.
Generation One - The Drifter
‘The first to wash up on the deserted shore, you find yourself in complete and utter isolation, remembering very little about where you came from or how you got here. With no way to return to wherever you come from, you must learn to survive or suffer an untimely end’
Main Objectives:
Have another sim wash up on the island (this can either be a townie or a sim you create) and pursue a romantic relationship with them
Your partner must have the Clumsy or Gloomy trait
Have no more than two children
Master the fishing and cooking skills
Complete the Angling Ace aspiration
Build a small dwelling with just enough space for your family
Generation Two - The Builder
‘Your parents always attempted to piece together their lives and memories of their homes before they came to the island, but this place is all you’ve ever known. You want to turn this island into the home you know it can be; the home your parents could never see it as.’
Main Objectives:
As a young adult, move the family to one of the empty 40x30 lots on the island
Build a house larger than what you had on your old lot (no real specifications here, just build yourself a nice deserted island home)
Meet the love of your life at the first festival you ever attend and marry them as a young adult
Have at least 3 children with your spouse
Master the Logic and Handiness skills
Complete the Renaissance Sim aspiration
Generation Three - The Nurturer
‘As you grew up, you watched your parents labor to build a better home for you and your siblings, but for every piece of your home that was built, another piece of the island was taken away. You want nothing more than to give something back, so that those who may come after you have a shot at survival too.’
Main Objectives:
Must be the middle child from the previous generation
Never marry and only have one child
Master the Herbalism and Gardening skills
Become best friends with your child
Have your child max all toddler skills, and the Creativity skill
Turn the lot your grandparents inhabited into a thriving garden
Complete the Freelance Botanist Aspiration
Generation Four - The Muser
‘Your childhood was spent drifting through lush gardens, soaking up sunlight, roaming across the island with your cousins. You’re constantly trying to capture these moments, to turn fleeting feelings into tangible artifacts that can be shared. So you sing, dance, paint, and write until you find a way to get it all down. To make it last.’
Main Objectives:
Have at least one child and at least 3 romantic partners in your lifetime
Master the Painting, Guitar, Singing, and Dancing skills
From reference, paint a masterpiece tier portrait of the island
Write 3 songs and play them for someone outside your family
Complete the Painter Extraordinaire and Musical Genius aspirations
Generation Five - The Explorer
‘You spent your childhood counting the days until the next festival so you could meet new people, play games, explore to your heart’s content. With every passing day the island feels smaller and smaller, and you yearn to see what lies beyond its rocky shores. Be the first in generations to leave the island and see what the world has to offer.’
Main Objectives:
Master the Fitness, Charisma, and Logic skills
Once you’ve mastered these skills, move to a different world of your choice
Complete the Friend of the World aspiration
Marry someone you meet in the world you move to
Consider the Legacy complete once this sim becomes an adult and these objectives are complete!
