please remember that No Shave November is about prostate/testicular cancer awareness
it is not about feminism. there is no reason that women should have to shave their body hair but please donât make No Shave November into a feminist statement when it is not meant to be one.
My favorite thing about Thomas the Tank Engine is that it canonically takes place in a train post-apocalypse where the Island of Sodor is the only safe zone in a totalitarian dystopia in which steam trains are routinely killed and their body parts are sold or cannibalized for repair
If you think Iâm kidding you need to read the original books
could you please direct me to a source? i would feel much better if this was validated.
It took me so long to find this quote online but I did it because itâs so much darker than one might expect from Thomas the Tank Engine:
ââŠEngines on the Other Railway arenât safe now. Their controllers are cruel. They donât like engines any more. They put them on cold damp sidings, and then,â Percy nearly sobbed, âtheyâŠthey c-c-cut them up.â -âThe Bluebells of England.â  Stepney the Bluebell Engine.  Rev. Awdry, Wilbert.  London: Egmont Publishing, 1963.
This illustration, by Gunvor and Peter Edwards, accompanied the above text in the original book, and depicts a pair of unfortunate Other Railway engines moments before being disassembled with a blowtorch.
HOLY FUCK LOOK AT THE ONE IN THE BACKGROUND THEY TOOK ITS FUCKING FACE OMG
the early thomas the tank engine books are pretty standard stuff. saccharine bubblegum type stories and illustrations. if you watched the show, itâs like that in book form. the second half of the railway series are so fucking dark and surreal iâm convinced they were a result of reverend wilbur awdry doing copious amounts of lsd and having hallucinations of his own death.
Excuse me but the very first story in the Railway Series is about an engine who hides in a tunnel and refuses to run because he doesnât want to get his paint job ruined in the rain, so railway management seals off the tunnel.
They eventually let him out because another engine breaks down or something, but the original plan was to just leave him in there forever.
On the show, didnât they also hook up one engine to a generator, so heâd never move again? That was literally one of the lines, I think. Itâs on some other post on here. It was chilling.
Yes! Â This also happened in the books, to an engine referred to only as âNo. 2âł, but the television series applied the same scenario to an invented character named âSmudgerâ, in the episode âGranpuffâ.
âSmudger,â said Duke. âWas a show-off. He rode roughly and often came off the rails. I warned him to be careful, but he took no notice.â âListen, Dukieâ he snared. âWho worries about a few spills?â âWe do here! I said, but Smudger just laughed.â âHahaha!â âUntil one day, Manager said he was going to make him useful at last. Smudger stopped laughing then!â âW-w-why? What did he do?!â âHe turned him into a generator. Heâs still there behind our shed. Heâll never move again.â
This is so fucked up
No, listen.
Okay, so we see Railway Management doing all this shit, right, but supposedly itâs so much worse in the Other Railways? I mean, sure, you might get turned into a generator or bricked into a tunnel for not doing as youâre told, but at least youâre not cut up and sold for parts, right? Itâs not so bad on the island of Sodor, right?
Or maybe thatâs just what Railway Management wants the engines to think.
Maybe the island of Sodor is the real totalitarian regime, and the engine citizens (slaves) are fed propaganda, illustrated in hellish grays and sulfuric yellows, about how bad it is everywhere else, at all the Other Railways.
You are lucky to be an engine of Sodor.
Railway Management cares about you.
Trust Railway Management.
Stay on Your Track.
It Could Be So Much Worse.
things get serious in the Thomas the Tank Engine fandom

Hi tumblr, I want you to meet me. I want to tell you why your fat acceptance movement is complete bs
See that photo on the left? I was 160kg. Thatâs 352.7lbs for my American lovers out there.
I did not know I was 160kg. I didnât go near a scale. I had gorgeous blonde hair extensions and jeans with chains and a leather jacket. I thought I was heaps fly. I could not see the girl in that picture⊠until I was tagged in that picture on Facebook.
I cannot tell you how long I cried for. Hours? Yes. Days? Probably. Weeks? Itâs likely.
I went to a doctor to see just how much I had been putting my body through. I was 21 at the time. He told me that he would be very surprised if I made it to 30, as my back and my organs were already struggling, coupled with the fact that I have some blood issues anyway⊠I was just putting a lot of stress on myself physically.
So I learned how to eat. I learned the value of protein, the implications of sugar and the fun of a cheat day. I started watching my portion sizes and keeping my water intake up. I went on short walks - nothing too strenuous. Really, I didnât put a whole lot of effort in at all. But the weight started falling off.
I remember the day I sat down comfortably at the Imax theatre in Sydney. I wasnât sitting right at the edge so I didnât get stuck. I was completely in the seat and it was incredible.
I dropped 50kg in 6 months without even trying.
My weight has fluctuated randomly since then, and I havenât quite hit my goal yet, but I have never gotten near 160kg again. I used to work out by putting the weight I had lost in a back pack, but eventually it got too much and I was really hurting myself. Do you even understand that? I couldnât even carry my own weight once I didnât have to.
I spend a lot of time preparing food and working out, because nothing terrifies me more than going back to that.
Tumblr, Iâm going to tell you what 160kg was like.
Some mornings, I woke up and my back had seized - I couldnât go to work because I couldnât walk. If it wasnât my back, it was the unbelievable chest pains. I had so much trouble finding clothing in a size 24. And Iâm going to be honest - sex was REALLY difficult. I was engaged to a wonderful man at the time, and I didnât have the confidence or ability to take charge in the way I wanted to and he wanted me to. Plus, not to be crude, but certain positions were completely out because my fat got in the way. Itâs something I STILL get unbelievably self conscious about - even though my situation has changed dramatically.
Sometimes, if I sat on a chair, I was afraid it would break. I spent a lot of time absolutely constipated because of my poor diet, and the flight up to my unit was the hardest thing in the world. I made frequent excuses for myself - including the age old âBut I EAT REALLY WELL AND EXERCISEâ yeah, if doritos were a vegetable and The Sims were a full body work out, I had those bases covered.
Everything hurt for no reason sometimes, and I was light headed and just plain sick so often it started to feel normal. My joints felt like those of an 80 year old woman. I was desperately, unbelievably unhappy and suicidal.
I want to share another thing with you before I get to my overall point.
That was the first picture I EVER took of my full body after dropping that 50kg. It was one of the scariest things Iâve ever done.
So. My point.
When you look at women like Tess Munster, and you tell me that sheâs the epitome of a happy, healthy, and confident woman, I think youâre an ignorant asshole. I canât believe that people choose to normalise that kind of lifestyle, and accept the fact that she will probably send herself to an early grave, because at least sheâs happy. Sheâs making a movement out of being too lazy and apathetic to make a beneficial change, and itâs sickening.
Some girl came up to me once and criticised my weight loss, because I inspired her by being an overweight girl on stage. What do I even say to that? âSorry Iâm not killing myself slowly to make you feel better about yourself.â
When you tell me that thin people have privilege, and that people should love you because youâre morbidly obese, it takes everything inside me not to hunt you down and slap you silly. Youâre an idiot. No one is obligated to find your laziness and lack of concern for yourself or your health hot. No one should ever have to respect someone who canât respect themselves. Being thin is not a privilege - for some of us, achieving it is damn hard work.
Iâm still overweight, and I know better than to demand someone find me attractive, or to get angry at someone for making fun of me with their friends. I also know better than to let it derail me or destroy me - rather, it fuels me.
Your fat acceptance is stupid. Youâre telling women to accept a body that is killing them. Youâre telling women itâs ok that youâre a massive drain on the medical system, as long as you think you feel good.
Screw your movement. Iâd take actual, legitimate health over having my fat become a societal norm. Iâd rather be relentlessly mocked for my weight than praised for it.
BLESSED BE THIS POST. Up yours, thisisthinprivilege.
This is pretty brilliant, and OP did an amazing thing for her life. Â (but yeah, of course thisisthinprivilege is going to ignore it)
You are gorgeous.
YES!!!
Ok so i have a few things to say in reply to this. 1. Im very proud of you and the weight youve put off. Im very happy that youre working towards the you that you desire. Thatâs fantastic. 2. I think youre overlooking a lot of serious issues. I am 18 and considered overweight, possibly even obese. I am 5â1 and weigh just under 200 lbs. This is not because i eat doritos every day, and play sims until my eyes fall out of my head. I eat fruit when it is available, plently of salad with lemon juice instead of a dressing, and eat out of kids dishes to help portion my food properly. My thyroid is essentially useless to me because of genetics received from both my mother and fathers sides of the family. My body processes almost none of the sugar i intake, and rather stores it in fat cells. I work out every night, and not just a light little 2 min. walk. Ilet me tell something to you. I have cried violently to the point of throwing up over my body image and my weight, something that my own family has picked on me and looked down on me for. For most of my life, i was told that i was fat and ugly because of me. It took me begging my mom to at least get a test done to prove that becausw of my genetics, there is no way i would ever get healthy, thin, or âprettyâ on my own. Its great that you did. But fuck you if you have the gall to tell me that im not fucking beautiful because of my weight. Fuck you if you think you can put down on heavy girls just because you were once one. Fuck you if you think that i cant call myself beautiful just because im not perfect weight. Fuck you if i have stomach pudge and you are going to promote that society shouldnt accept that because you deem it âunhealthy and unattractiveâ. Fuck you. I DESERVE TO BE BEAUTIFUL TOO. I DESERVE TO HAVE MEN WANT ME NO MATTER MY BODY. I DESERVE TO BE CONSIDERED BEAUTIFUL. YOU ON THE OTHER HAND ARE THE UGLIEST BITCH IVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. WHY? BECAUSE YOURE A SHITTY FUCKING PERSON INSIDE. YOURE A FUCKING ASSHOLE WHO DOESNT DESERVE LOVE BECAUSE YOU SHIT ON GIRLS WHO HAVE BIGGER BODIES, EVEN IF ITS NOT BY CHOICE. EVEN IF THEIR BODIES ARE WORKING AGAINST THEM. EVEN IF ITS PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THIN WITHOUT OUTRIGHT STARVING YOURSELF TO DEATH. EVEN IF THEY LEAD A HEALTHY LIFE AND JUST CANT DROP THE WEIGHT IN 6 FUCKING MONTHS LIKE YOU. YOU FUCKING PRIVELEDGED TWAT.
Short people are great to hug as a tall person because you can wrap your arms entirely around them and slowly crush them into the hungry abyss that is your chest.
I want my funeral to be nothing but cotton eyed joe playing on repeat for the entire ceremony because if Iâm in hell then yâall are going to be in hell too.Â

We've both got way too much ahead to worry 'bout what we've left behind.
When did the words all start to blur and make the point too hard to see? In all the writing on the walls, in every place we had to be?
This is my last remaining filter on my last remaining words; Itâs leaving the taste of something bitter on my tongue.
I know you've heard a thousand words that took your breath away
A million melodies that never got the notes to say what they mean
