So here is a little update on my Illustrator coursework.

The aim is to recreate an already existing image of a sharpener using illustrator. I have to say it’s been fun even though learning how to use some tools requires YouTube videos but I guess a girls got to do what a girls got to do.

I mentioned previously in a post entitled “Where I am”, that I am really interested in computer graphics. Well, this has been very interesting as well as a challenge and I can’t wait to finish this project along with all the others to come due to the fact that I know I have so much to learn. I still feel as though computer graphics is the path I am most likely to take at this point in time but there are a few things I have to do along the way

- learn more about the tools in the software used which will allow me to become better at creating things

- practice in my spare time

Today was GREAT! I finally got down and dirty in the CCI Radio Studio.

Today I learnt so much about radio that I didn’t know before, for example I learnt how to use the software on the computer but it was a little confusing. I also learnt how to use the control board. This was so fun! However, we didn’t get much time in here as our class was split into 2. I am very interested in learning more about radio so I have set myself some aims ...

1. Practise using the software so that I can work my way around it better, in order to be able to produce a radio broadcast

2. Practise more using the control board because I feel as though this is what makes or breaks a radio broadcast.

3. Listen to more radio stations to help me with my knowledge and awareness of what goes on

I am so interested in Radio at the moment, in particular presenting on radio.

After my half of the class had left the radio studio we went back to class and practised cutting down information and script writing. This was good but not as good as being in that radio studio!

For our first Production practises Coursework we had to do a VT insert for a multi camera TV show. We had to meet a number of requirements...

Must be shot Single Camera.

Sound must be recorded on two mic’s.

Considered images and framing

Appropriate lighting must be used (Artificial or natural)

Must be structured (Intro, Middle and ending)

Must use appropriate cutaways.

Subject for the film must be considered and reflected in film.

Producers will be asked to produce their production material as part of any tutorial.

After seeing all of the requirements this is what we came up with. 

Our idea was to do our VT about guide dogs and we wanted to show how helpful and amazing they are. We then heard about an amazing guy called Nick who not only had a guide dog due to being visually impaired, Nick is an astronomy teacher for others who are also visually impaired. 

I found Nick’s story so inspirational, along with the rest of my group and he was such a lovely person! When making this VT I really connected with it (even had a tear in my eye at one point (yes I’m a little emotional).

I was sound operator as you can see from one of the cut aways in the VT. I feel as though this was a real success as we struggled a little bit at the start with setting up the lighting. It also took me a little while to set up the sound as this was my first official time for filming but got it done in the end. In the future I would like to practise how to set up the sound so that I will be able to do it faster in the future which would be more convenient. 

I would also like to have practise with setting up lighting and learning a little more about how it works.

Where I am

I have been on my course of Television and Broadcasting for around 1 month now. I have discovered that what I enjoy the most is Computer Graphics. This is something I can see myself doing more than anything else at the moment as I am enjoying learning about the different software. I researched that people do free lancing editing for people on loads of different software. I feel as though this would be something cool to do but I’m not sure if I want to do this as a full-time thing, I would prefer to do this on the side. 

​I have been working on Illustrator for my coursework, which I have never used before coming to uni; using Illustrator took me a while to get used to, but I did it in the end after binge watching a variety of YouTube videos. The hours put in were worth it! 

I have coursework to do on other software too, such as 

- Photoshop

- Animate

- After Effects

- Cinema 4D

Presenting practices

Quick update on the presenting. In my last post I said that I wanted to have more practise in presenting so guess what ... I did!

In my TV and Production practises class, we were set a task which involved a member of our group being filmed whilst everyone else took on either a technical role or the role of director or producer. I was the person being filmed and I discovered after this lesson that Presenting may not be the thing that I want to do. #GameChanger

My aim is to now find something that I feel as though is more for me, wish me luck!

Where I was

Before I came to University I was unsure about what I wanted to do and what I wanted to get out of my course that I had chosen, however I knew that I wanted to be within the Media industry. 

​I was very interested in presenting as I believe that I have a bubbly personality and I thought I would be good at it.  

I had also previously hosted a live music event and happened to enjoy it. 

I am going to push to try and practise some presenting as I am not 100% confident doing it all of the time.

Why I Chose My University and My Course

Hey everyone! In my previous introduction video I mentioned that I study at the University of Portsmouth and that I study Television and Broadcasting. In this post I wanted to explain the reason for choosing this specific university and my course.

Why I chose the University of Portsmouth

When looking at Universities, the University of Portsmouth and Birmingham City were the two leading universities that I wanted to go to. I refused to choose one of the two before visiting both. I had to weight out the pros and cons of both universities and Portsmouth was better for me for a number of reasons…

1. The university facilities were better than the ones at Birmingham City Uni

2. The surrounding area in Portsmouth was really nice! It felt like more of a community and there were more things to do in the surrounding area, for example, there is a beach in walking range, places to shop, cinema and I felt as though all of this would make my uni experience better as I enjoy doing activities with friends.

3. I also felt as though the course at the University of Portsmouth covered a lot of different things which I believed gave me the opportunity to learn more and possibly help me to find what I would like to specify in, in the future.

I definitely didn’t make a mistake in choosing this University as I have explored the surrounding area since being here. However, I feel as though I have so much more to explore.

Why I chose Television and Broadcasting

When thinking about what I wanted to do in University and possibly for the rest of my life I thought about what I was interested in. I knew I was more of a productive person and I also consider myself to be creative which made me look at loads of different courses based around media. Television and Broadcasting caught my eye due to the variety of modules; the modules covered a lot of things within the media industry and it intrigued me a lot!

I promise to keep things short from now on aha, just wanted to let you guys know the story as to how I got to where I currently am.
