ʚїɞ - Mid-barrage, Fern swung her staff down to the ground a short ways away to create a series of small, hexagonal shields that blocked the magic beams that had been fired from the enemy side. They had been aiming for the man her shields protected, and the mage had protected him out of obligation. They were copying her magic after all, and she wouldn't tolerate it being used to hurt or kill another person.

"My fault. I thought everyone had left this block already." She muttered too him in a perfect deadpan, after floating down to his side. The singing in the background gave her the perfect backing track. "But you can evacuate if you want. I should be able to keep them pinned back here."

ʚїɞ - "It's inconvenient that you can't fly, you know." Fern very slyly smirked to Rapi as yet another barrage of Zoltraak beams were launched from the tip of her raised staff, colliding with monsters and tearing them apart. All she had to do was redirect the beams midflight to mow down even more.

But Zoltraak beams flew back at them, copied by the enemy side. They were promptly intercepted by hexagonal barriers that were layered on top of each other and only appeared where the beams were traveling from. Defensive magic.

"Come to think of it, this is the first time you've seen me fight at full power, isn't it?" They were protecting the stage, but Fern was also sticking close enough to her girlfriend to prevent any injury from befalling her. "How does my magic look to you?" That wasn't really the time for combat analysis though!

like this for a moonshade pt2 starter! as frieren's student and an s-class mage, fern is extremely powerful offensively and defensively. she's good for attacking with her beam spam, and she's able to create powerful barriers, so she's pretty flexible if you want to do an offensive thread or if you need her to help protect your muse.

"You do look cute in that. Your robes look nice but it doesn't hurt to throw on something new once and awhile." It was how she managed to find as many less "military" clothes as she did. Along with some effort from her friends shoving as many pieces of clothes Rapi's way to just see how the Nikke would look in it.

"Besides being able to be out here with you is more then enough for me. Even if I'm sure it'd be nicer in an air conditioned room."

Or you know, not exercising to begin with...

"Maybe later I can make you something. If you got a craving for anything in particular."

ʚїɞ - Fern blinked. "Is that a dig at how I hardly wear anything else?" She should Rapi a little bit of a glare, but ended up looking off to the side after being complimented. "...I guess it's fine. I do usually just wear the same things." If it bothered her, she could just focus on that fact that Rapi had wanted it instead of worrying about what others might think.

There was a subtle smile. At least for a moment.

"I suppose I'll put up with getting sweaty. Just this once. For you." If it was just for a little while, she could deal with it. "You'll probably need to make something after..." Since she was going to be so physically exhausted! "...Pancakes in bed? Maybe with my girlfriend in the bed too?" She thought she was slick, but it sounded funny with her deadpan.

ʚїɞ - "I feel like I've been to space more times than most mages have. Am I cursed?"

"Trust me, I'm not encouraging the full habit," Himmel laughed a little at Fern's words, smiling almost apologetically. "I can tell you first hand just how much of our money went to his favourite drink-- well, it was either that, or spent on any grimoire Frieren could get her hands on. But after a long trip, when we got settled in a town for a few days, it was nice to share a drink together." He paused, then clarified. "One drink."

"If only I could live far enough to see that day. It's hard to believe he stopped, but it's good that he did-- he had someone much more important to spend his time with, after all."

ʚїɞ - She couldn't even berate him for likening Heiter's drinking to Frieren's tome budget, because she had experienced firsthand how her master got if Stark and herself weren't watching what she purchased. There had been numerous times on their journey when they were suddenly and mysteriously lacking in funds.

"I was never able to see that side of him, but I'm content only hearing about it in stories. I don't think he would have appreciated an eight-year-old berating him for drinking." Which she absolutely would have done. "...Though our party has had a recurring member who drinks, smokes, and whines about wanting an older woman..."

"Not that it's my go-to method for relaxing, but for those who are of age.. perhaps take a page out of my good friend Heiter's book and treat yourself to a drink one of these nights. It's good to take a load off every now and then."

ʚїɞ - "Please don't encourage Master Heiter's drinking habits in others, Master Himmel. He spent more coin than he should of on that hobby of his according to the stories he told me, even if he stopped drinking when he adopted me."

"Is it not a good idea to try and stretch out everything while it's still bright out in the day? Even more so with someone you like a lot?"

On one hand Rapi's thought process wasn't completely wrong. Nice weather along with a lovely evening was perfect for something like this. It just only hit her in the moment that Fern certainly didn't do anything really physical.

"Still you're probably right. I couldn't think of many places that we could go out together. Not anywhere that wasn't really overly fancy again. So I thought coming out here would be a nice change of pace..."

ʚїɞ - "I suppose... in theory you're right." Rapi's point was acknowledged begrudgingly, even if it wasn't really a matter of being a "good idea" or not. It was more of a question of whether or not it was romantic, but Rapi had her own quirks when it came to dating, just like Fern did. She'd been trying her best to think of something, it seemed, so she sighed in defeat. "It's fine, we can run. Just please keep my pace in mind... And I'll expect you to carry me if I get tired."

It wasn't the first time she'd added an expectation no one had signed up for like that.

"And here I was wondering if you wanted to see me in shorts, so you came up with this idea..." Because Fern didn't dress outside of her comfort zone very often. She was teasing the Nikke though.

"Hey - give me some credit. I'm more looking for whoever is controlling the thermostat around here. It was mostly a joke anyways." He's got his hands on his hips. Well! "I'm just not used to the weather getting so hot so quickly. It's kind of crazy."

ʚїɞ - "I'd argue that it is an island, but I suppose that doesn't explain the vegetation and how cold it gets in the winter." Fern had spent most of her life traveling, but she'd never really been anywhere too balmy.

"I'd prefer it if spring or autumn lasted longer, though."

"It was like....in the 60s last week. Why is it so hot. Who authorized this. I want to speak with the guys in charge."

ʚїɞ - "Are you asking to speak to the manager? I believe that type of attitude is referred to as being a "Karen"? ...Not sure why, though."

ʚїɞ - "Rapi... I have no problems with watching you go for a run, but is jogging together really a "date idea"?" Fern was a mage. She was fit enough for that, but usually she could rely on flying for speed, she didn't need to sweat it on the ground like Stark did. That was to say that she wasn't very muscular and she didn't have much stamina. Plus she couldn't run in her dress, so she was still wearing shorts and a tanktop.

A combination of clothes you wouldn't often see her in. At least it was evening so there weren't many people in the park.

"I probably won't be able to keep up with you..." There was a chance Rapi had a plan. Like she wanted to take her somewhere with the jog, but Fern was so workout-adverse that she couldn't help but try and make excuses.

"I suppose that's true..." Still Rapi was here rather then anyone else that would have been far easier to talk with. So maybe she was a fool for not going to someone more a little "social". Or maybe this was the perfect individual for someone like her.

"R-Right here." Only then did she finally jump into action by pulling up her tablet of notes, plenty scrambled across the screen before finally enlarging one across the whole screen.

"It's somewhere around this line. At least that's what screams right in my face every time something does go wrong. So my guess is its in the general area..."

ʚїɞ - Fern's attention traveled to the tablet when it was pulled out, but her eyes lingered on the stranger's face for a maybe a little too long as she'd struggled to remove it. Something Fern herself didn't quite catch the significance of, even though she had been captivated by her for a moment.

"Hmm..." She stared down at the code once she pulled her eyes away from the woman. When she felt confident, she made direct eye contact with her. While pointing at the line that seemed like it was giving her trouble. "Unless you want your project to do a backflip, you should probably remove that line. Also, your code could be more organized. A tag isn't going to close properly sooner or later if you aren't more careful."

" Oh? So they do not need help...? "

That's a relief. It means there's no unknown student who he can't reach out there because he doesn't know their name. The situation still isn't ideal though - if he laptop doesn't get fixed it'll become a problem.

But hearing it can be fixed is a good start.

" ...yes. "

" Please show me! I'm unfamiliar with these ...viruses so I don't know much anything. "

Aside from the actual meaning of the word of course.

ʚїɞ - "Well, don't try to pour cough medicine in the exhaust vent or anything." Fern was beginning to think maybe his level or understanding when it came to modern technology was much more dire than she'd thought. And that impression had already been pretty poor, so the bar had effectively fallen onto the floor.

Almost like a vampire, she entered his space the moment that she was invited in, leaning over the table while avoiding unnecessary contact with him as she typed away. "To begin with, you're going to want to turn on your computer's natural protection. Antivirus, adblockers, that kind of thing. Do you uh... Click on a lot of windows that pop up when using the internet?"

ʚїɞ - "I babysat a cat once. I believe that means I am entitled to compensation on this Mother's Day, for I was temporarily that cat's mother. Cake will be fine."

ʚїɞ - "If throwing people into the hole is going to become a common occurrence, perhaps there's money to be made by offering to fly in and catch anyone for a fee? Of course, I could be bribed to not do that if the organizers pay me more."
