2019
This year was, for many of us Slovaks, a year of a tragic loss to our (not just underground) culture. We’ve lost our, like some used to call it, nAtIoNaL tReAsUrE due to a Very silly gentrification. Rest in Peace, Subclub. You are still loved ’n’ missed. I clearly remember this situation feeling STRANGELY ridiculous to me, so I, with a great naivety running in my veins as per usual, started an online petition, and overall campaigning against the shutdown on social media. What was I thinking?? hehe. Lost battle before we’d even started. But I get very enthusiastic & passionate when there is something so adorable, unique and important for the culture like this thing. The club was running since the separation from the Czech and formation of our own independent Slovak Republic in 1993. That’s over two fucking decades! The whole time since our country has been on its own. Until the bloody ‘19. You can imagine how many people it has formed certain cultural way throughout these years. My parents, who are now in their 50s, used to go there in the ‘90s. Used to be a grunge place then. When I started going at the age of 15, it was mainly d’n’b club, with techno/indie events and occasional theatre plays. Tough security duo at the door, and TheN the long trippy tunnel into this strange underworld of electronic music. A place for everyone. A club located in a military bunker in the hills with Bratislava castle on the top?? wHAT tHe hEll??? Yeah, we’ve lost that. Anyways, from what I distorted-ly remember, there was a couple of thousands of signatures. Like 2-4k maybe. Thank you all of you who signed back then. We agreed on the same thing. We wanted Subclub to stay. We all wanted to party in Subclub again. That’s definitely a ‘positive vibes only’ attitude, and I appreciate that, friends and fellow party-goerz. Again, RIP SUBCLUB. We won’t forget. AND I will post an updated finished polished version of this short film sooooooooooooon.
Very soon.
