I sort of love (and weep at) the contrast between Cal and Caleb/Kanan, because I’ve been hearing around the fandom (but have not actually read myself) that Kanan, aside from changing his name, became a wandering alcoholic vagabond before he joined up with Hera. In the show, he stays involved in the galaxy by basically pulling a Robin Hood whenever the crew has the leeway to do so, and rarely uses his lightsaber. He’s reluctantly dragged into taking on an apprentice and joining the Rebellion.

Cal, meanwhile, keeps his whole-ass name, stays in a single place for five years, and holds a (presumably stable, if not particularly safe) job during this time. He apparently has no idea how to shoot or duck behind a wall, and whatever honor code Tapal drilled into him apparently included an unhealthy respect for locked doors. Although blasters are apparently a little too uncivilized for him, kicking someone to death is very much on the table. Has to be convinced not to take on multiple baby apprentices, and disappears into the horizon once it is no longer an option.
