Macau SAR

July 2009 Some shots from our trip last July 2009 in Macau! Compared to it's nearby neighbor HK, there aren't a lot of things to do in Macau except go to the casino and do the usual tourist sightseeing. However I still love this place because of all the lights. Perfect for nightscape photography. Compared to the real Venice in Italy and the Venetian in Las Vegas, the Venetian in Macau is such a sight to behold. If going to the Venetian was the single reason you were going to Macau then it would be definitely worth it. It's like a city on it's own.

15th Hot Air Balloon Festival

February 11, 2010 A day after our trip to Cambodia, we rushed back to Clark to see the 15th Hot Air Balloon Festival.  This is my 4th time to go to this event.  This year I mostly used a 15mm fisheye and my Nikon D60 IR Camera.  Here are some of my shots.

Beijing, China (Mono/Duo & IR)

Sharing some of my images from Beijing last 2007. This is my oldest out of the country trip that I haven't posted. (Still have a lot of backlogs)Going back at some of my photos here I only picked around 5% of my total images that's worthy of posting.Some notes on this photo trip1. Being on a tour is really limiting. Al...though this was sort of a private tour with family members, I found the tour to be limiting in both time and creative opportunities to shoot.2. Having a converted IR cam is essential for travelThis was my pre converted IR camera period wherein I took a lot of time with my Hoya R72 + 400d. Most of the shots I liked were actually with this combo. However because of the long setup times with the R72, I missed a lot of shots with my normal cameras.3. Previsualization is very importantWhen we went to beijing, I was happy to have brought 3 cameras. However I didn't know what to shoot and how to shoot it properly. Most of my shots had poor angles and bad composition. Now that I look back, I should have researched a bit more on the places we went to.4. Know what focal length is essential.I mostly used wide lenses on this trip. Because of that I missed a lot of street and portrait shots. I had my 70-200 2.8IS but I didn't use it properly. Going back I should have used that lens more since there were a lot of interesting things to shoot - especially people. It doesn't matter if you bring 3 lenses like the trinity or you bring 5 prime lenses. What's important is you know what you're going to shoot and why that particular focal length is effective in conveying the shot. Nowadays I like to use prime lenses because it keeps things simple. I tend to focus more on composition and getting those one of a kind images with primes. Of course the high IQ also helps :)5. Always shoot in RAWThese were shots taken last 2007 with a Canon 400d / 30d. Good thing I shot all of my images in RAW since I can still get a lot of detail especially using Canon DPP and Adobe Photoshop CS46. Older dSLR's still rule.Don't let the new camera models tempt you as much because your current dSLR's can still take great photos. These were taken with a 400d/30d almost 2 1/2 years ago. Of course a good camera always helps but proper technique and composition is always part of it. So invest in photography workshops!7. Invest in quality filtersDuring this time I only had a the Hoya R72 as my quality filter. The Hoya R72 is an excellent IR filter. The best there is. Good thing I was able to use it properly. I still keep my Hoya R72 even though I already have 2 converted IR cameras since I know I'll still use it in my future photo trips. ---------The images I posted here are monotone/duotone and Infrared images only. (Since it was overcast the whole time we were there I decided to just convert most of the images to mono/duo)

Ngong Ping, Hong Kong in Infrared

July 7, 2009 Been busy for the past few weeks with work I haven't posted as much travel photos as I would have liked.  I processed these around a month ago and I completely forgot to post these.  These were all taken with a converted D60 + 18-105.  We went back to Hong Kong in July and I decided it was time for us to see some sights outside the city.  All of the shots were taken in Lantau Island in Ngong Ping.  We stopped by three places since we didn't have enough time - Po Lin Monastery, The Giant Buddha and the Wisdom path.  This is actually a great place to take photographs especially infrared photos and it's only one stop away from Disney Line.

Ateneo Bonfire 2009

October 10, 2009 Back to Back Champions!  Since I wasn't able to line up last year because of the mud, I decided to line up this year to have my Nonoy Baclao jersey signed by the players.  We waited for almost 2 1/2 hours!  By the time we finished, tapos na ang bonfire. Pero sulit. Congrats again to Ateneo!

2009 UAAP Champions! Back to Back!

October 8, 2009 Double Back to Back Champions! Back to back for the Ateneo Blue Eaglets Back to back for the Ateneo Blue Eagles.  For the last 2 seasons, the Blue Eagles have won 32 games and lost only 3 times.  That's a 91.4% winning percentage! It's my 10th year watching the Blue Eagles live.  The dominance of Ateneo right now is similar to the dominance of the UST Growling Tigers during mid-90's and the DLSU Green Archers in the late 90's early 00's.  Hopefully Ateneo can keep up their winning ways for the years to come! Congratulations again to Ateneo. Ang sarap maging Atenista!

Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

May 19-21, 2008 (Had to repost this because of intermittent electricity because of Typhoon Ondoy, worst flooding ever!) When I was 12 years old, my whole family went on a roadtrip around the continental US.  We travelled for 2 1/2 month around 29 states around the US.  Back then fuel was cheap and the exchange rate was still $1:P26.  I had a great time back then because we were also travelling with other family friends (3 families in total from the Philippines) and it was such an adventure to travel from city to city. I wanted Ela to experience this so we planned a road trip from LA to Las Vegas to Yosemite and finally to San Francisco.  I also wanted to do this since it was my first time to actually drive in the US.  Back then it was also a challenge to go from city to city because you have to plan the routes.  All we had back then was a Rand Mcnally map.  Now, it's so easy with a Garmin GPS.  We arrived in Vegas around 10pm and the city was still wide awake!  It was actually my third time to go to Las Vegas, but the city is so much different from before.  Vegas is so much better with all the bigtime hotels like the Wynn, Bellagio, Venetian, etc. Anyway here are some of my better photos from the trip.

September 19, 2009Corinthian Gardens Clubhouse First wedding workshop of Oly Ruiz from Metrophoto! A lot of people learned a lot from this workshop.  Best of all Oly gave the workshop for free! I only have 3 photos of the model, the rest are photos of Oly! Haha. Full Frame + L Primes = Panalo! Used a 5Dmk2 + 50 1.2L and 135 2L at it's widest setting for most of the shots. Barcelona, Spain

March 18, 2008 5th Day of our trip to Europe.  From Madrid, we took a high speed train to Barcelona.  It only took us around 3 hours (max speeds of 300 km/h!).  We weren't able to tour that city that much.  We just took the tourist bus the goes around the city.  We were able to stop at the Olympic Park and the famous Sagrada de Familia Church (Antonio Gaudi's masterpiece) Barcelona is the capital, most populous city of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain, with a population of 1,615,908 in 2008. It is the eleventh-most populous municipality in the European Union and sixth-most populous urban area in the European Union after Paris, London, Ruhr Area, Madrid and Milan with the population 4,185,000.[1] 4,9 million[2][3][4] people live in Barcelona metropolitan area. The main part of a union of adjacent cities and municipalities named Área Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) with a population of 3,186,461 in area of 636 km² (density 5.010 hab/km²). Barcelona is Europe's largest city on the Mediterranean coast.Barcelona is recognised as a global city because of its importance in finance, commerce, media, entertainment, arts and international trade.[5][6] Barcelona is a major economic centre with one of Europe's principal Mediterranean ports, and Barcelona International Airport is the second largest in Spain after the Madrid-Barajas Airport (handles about 30 million passengers per year).

Bandung Regency, Indonesia

June 22-25, 2009 Here are my other shots taken with my 5D in the Ciwidey area.  These shots were taken at Situ/Lake Patenggan and Kawah Putih.  Kawah Putih is actually very similar to the Mount Pinatubo crater here in the Philippines. Kawah Putih (White Crater) is an inactive crater on the top of Mount Patuha. It is located in the south of Bandung around 46-km distance. This place was found by a Dutch called Franz Wilhelm Junghuh. At that time, the local villagers believe that this area is haunted as flying birds passing over the lake could fell and died without any known reason. After it was founded that the weird looking white lake is actually a crater filed with stagnant water. It still produce sulphuric fume, which creates some smoke out from the water and gives not a pleasant smell.
