Todavia Publishing House presented us with a fascinating challenge: to create a visual system for the reissue of the complete works of Dalton Trevisan, one of the most enigmatic and consistent voices in Brazilian literature. The goal was to bring a renewed perspective to his work and spark the interest of both new readers and those who have followed him for decades. The editor’s brief was clear: each book should have its own identity while remaining part of a cohesive whole. From this idea, we developed a system based on a few fixed elements and an open field for variation, allowing the covers to communicate with one another while maintaining the unique personality of each title. Our starting point was the author’s name, Dalton, displayed prominently on every cover. It changes in size and position from book to book, but always remains a strong visual anchor. We introduced vibrant colors and titles placed inside boxes, a direct reference to the white correction fluid the author used obsessively to rewrite his manuscripts by hand. We also explored his personal archives, bringing back illustrations, fragments from past editions, and photographs from his life, which add an emotional and biographical layer to the project. The result is a collection that conveys the feeling of something constantly in progress, as if each book were still being assembled. Nothing is perfectly aligned or symmetrical. Much like the newspaper clippings Dalton used to collect, every cover feels handmade, with imperfections that become part of its beauty. It is a tribute to the artisanal gesture of an author who spent his life revising and reinventing his own words. Long live Dalton.
