authenticity through aesthetic
tumblr is one of two internet spaces where i feel like i can come and create something that isn't directly influenced by other creatives in the same space. unlike tiktok or instagram, two platforms where the influences of style are fed through "relatable" video content that makes obtaining every single aspect seem so obtainable, tumblr (and pinterest) offer a smorgasbord of imagery, quotes, etc. to choose from and allow you to curate your own aesthetic without having to worry too much about public perception.
as a girlie who loves a new year reset, i see september as a fall version of this thanks to school supplies season and planner publishers releasing 2026 books in the fall. this past year in my planner, i've noticed a lot of outside influence dictating my decisions (performative planning, urgh) so i decided to clean out my craft supplies, swatch my heart out, and determine an aesthetic for the new year that mimics what i save in this space and over on pinterest instead of what i see from the many creators i follow on socials. no hate to them! i admire their work, their passion, and their productivity beyond words. i also envy their ability to take their passions and turn them into paid partnerships that allow them to support their creative work full-time, but that ain't me and the only way i'll ever get there is by being 100% myself on the page.
i've been writing about this in my journal/planner (currently using a 2025 hobonichi cousin, but making a big switch in 2026—that story is for another day!) but felt like typing it out and throwing it out here this morning!
