This is based on @extasiswings’s excellent post about 2 x 17 and the beach scene; I didn’t want to hijack the post but I had a lot of thoughts. I think a lot of the reason people think Eddie didn’t love Shannon comes down to a disregard of bisexuality and a disinclination to accept that he can be queer and still love women? I’m sorry but nothing that I saw during Eddie’s entire arc thus far indicates that he didn’t love Shannon but showed quite the opposite. Were those feelings complicated, and did he struggle with trusting her again with Christopher and letting her back into his life and their son’s? Sure! I’m no fan of Shannon’s but I don’t think it’s possible to disregard her massive importance in his life and how much her leaving and her death affected him and still does to some extent. I think a lot of this is also due to the fact that a lot of people don’t like Shannon and I firmly fall into that category as well, but these things aren’t black and white and you can still not like a character’s actions while acknowledging their role in your favorite character’s life. I really do think Eddie is bi and I’d love to see the show take us down that path for his character arc culminating in him getting together with Buck. And while I don’t presume to tell people how to headcanon their favorite fictional characters’ sexualities, I’d encourage people who have an issue with accepting that Eddie loved Shannon to maybe think about if that’s due to them having a hard time accepting a bi!Eddie.
