lie (badly)
change the subject
crack jokes to avoid serious answers
lie (convincingly)
say half of what they mean
tell the truth but get so anxious/angry/defensive others now think they're lying
If your dialogue feels unnatural, it might be because everyone is saying exactly what they think, or articulating their thoughts too well. Try letting characters hide things instead.
Subtext is where tension lives.
a thing about me is i basically never notice a wig or other kind of hairpiece in tv/movies. it has to be party city territory for me to even twig it. people will complain about characters' wigs looking bad and i will nod along but there is like a 90% chance i did not notice for a second while watching. i consider this mostly a blessing.

“friends? no thanks. best friends!” except there’s not the enthusiasm and it’s more hesitant and awkward bc mike has Feelings he doesn’t have names for but maybe he does and that’s super confusing except they have to fight monsters and save the world real quick:
Will, smiling nervously at Mike while the sound of the creaky ladders shift and thunder rolls quietly above them. “I’m just happy that we’re still… I mean i just hope we’re still… friends, y’know?”
Mike lips twitch, he blinks a few times and shifts his weight as if unsettled. “Yeah, yeah. Friends.” He says, rubbing his neck. Will’s stomach sinks—is that not what he wants?
Mike’s hands find the railing in front of them, he stares out at the view of the upside down for a second before turning to meet Will’s eyes. He smiles for real now.
“Best friends.” His voice is soft, the way it only ever is for Will.
Will lets out a relieved breath that sounds almost like a laugh and looks down at the railing. That’s when he feels the side of Mike’s hand press into his. He looks, to make sure he’s not imagining it.
He’s not. The sides of their hands are flush against each other where they rest on the rusted metal. Mike’s pinky twitches against his, as if he’s fighting to make a decision. Will looks up slowly to Mike. He’s also staring at their hands, biting at the inside of his cheek. When he looks up, Will feels like the air got knocked out of his lungs. The look in Mike’s eyes is daring. He looks like he has something more to say.
A loud rumble of thunder cuts through the silence, Will blinks and backs up, grabbing the water bottle from where he’d set it down on the ground.
“Here,” he says quietly, handing it back to Mike.
He nods a thanks, they both flinch when their fingers brush in the exchange.
Will laughs awkwardly, Mike mimics it.
“We should, you know–” Will points over to the ladder.
“Save the world from an evil slimy vine wizard? Yeah probably.” He jokes, throwing his bag back over his shoulder.
“Yeah. Again.” Will says as Mike grabs onto the ladder rung first.
He turns to look at him and smiles. “Again.”
and then the epilogue is the same but they kiss or smth idk (inspo)

heartstopper forever thoughts:
it would’ve been nice if they could’ve had a full 4th season.
the movie was cute, ultimately it tied up their story nicely and i like some of the changes they made from the comics/novella but also i felt like i was too busy keeping up to process what had just happened very well. I felt like i was watching a music video montage instead of watching a movie so much. a longer season would’ve emphasized the hardships that go into young relationships more. we have three different versions of high school sweethearts playing out and they ultimately are impacting each other but we don’t get to enjoy that very much because we’re too busy moving onto the next thing.
i liked the parallels and reflections, it was sweet, a bit corny but that’s kind of the fun of it. also it just felt like a love letter to everyone who’s worked so lovingly on this project for the past 5 years. i think it was nice and ultimately they did a really good job with what they were given to work with, it’s just a shame they didn’t get a full season to finish out with. i would’ve liked to see some more fleshed out stories and feelings and whatnot.
