lucius:
luci was reading through a script of a potential show for the next school year’s season when lennox came into his classroom. it wasn’t exactly odd, but he could instantly tell that his younger sister was not in a good mood. he looked up as she sat, eyes resting on her as he waited for her to speak. he knew she probably would and he didn’t want to start the conversation and say the wrong thing. he knew lennox was going through a hard time, her anger was completely understandable and he never wanted to invalidate her feelings, even if she sometimes took them out on the wrong person. lucius took a breath as she finally spoke, nodding, “that much was pretty clear… what’s going on?” he set the script down, giving her his full attention, “or do you not wanna talk about it?” he didn’t want to force her to talk if that wasn’t what she wanted.
he leaned back in his chair, waiting, “and… for the record, it’s ok to be upset, lennox.” that was important. luci wanted her to know that he would refute her feelings. if she needed to be angry or upset or sad then she was allowed to be. it took a lot for him not to just ramble and ramble, but even he could recognize the time and place wasn’t right for that. not with lennox. and definitely not lately with lennox.
lennox opened one of her eyes and peeked over at luci as he started speaking. at his questions, she closed it again and sighed, rubbing her hands down her face. “it’s not that i don’t wanna talk it’s just —” she opened her eyes and shook her head, slapping her hands into her lap exasperatedly, “it’s just that everything is going on. everything! but nothing should be, everything should be on pause, or something,” she explained, hoping that made any sense. today, it wasn’t the fact that ana had passed that was bothering her; it was that the world just kept moving as though nothing happened. lennox couldn’t recall any other time she’d experienced loss so personally, and it just felt . . . wrong to not give it time, to not let it be in the front of her mind. it just baffled and upset her beyond belief that everyone else could just move past it.
lex shrugged, “i . . . i guess,” she responded. really, she knew her brother was right; there was no shame in being upset. matter of fact, she had half a mind to let him know she agreed, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. in her mind, someone like herself couldn’t afford to be upset. upset for lennox was bad on a good day — of course, the recent events just made her good days almost unbearable. so she kept her response short, hoping her brother would let her leave it at that on that point. she knew her fuse was especially short today, and really she just didn’t want to feel more upset than she was, and she especially didn’t want to take that out on luci; especially not since she was the one who traipsed into his classroom.
