Happy birthday @caswell-ej! 🎉
I realized some things are more important than revenge. Like protecting your friends.
ciara in every episode → 1x06: tonight, two knight
but if i wrote the lab rats video essay it would be entirely about how the show is set up as an unintentional metaphor for being queer. about how especially in the early seasons, so much of adam bree and chase’s characters are centered around a sort of desperation to fit in in contrast with everyone around them being able to tell, without knowing specifically what it is, that there’s something different about them. how bree veers towards hyper-femininity in order to mix with the other girls her age and how her determination to find a boyfriend never comes from the place of actually liking a guy but instead from her grappling to get some semblance of normalcy. how chase’s unwillingness to change his persona leads to him being an outcast. how adam should fit in with the jock-bros at school but never does. and how some of the first people we see them really connect with on a level of actual understanding are leo and douglas, who are almost explicitly queer-coded (particularly in douglas’s case). how the first time we see chase get close to someone outside of his family it’s someone he shares the experience of having super-intelligence with who he latches onto and trusts, and he calls him his “best friend” even though it’s clear to everyone, including the people in the show, that the feelings go deeper than that — and how that betrayal shuts him down for the rest of the show. how adam and bree form bonds with people like owen and caitlin! the “outing” that takes place after years of trying to hide a dangerous secret! the entire theme of feeling out-of-place in their bodies, learning to be confident in themselves as they are instead of trying to fit in with everyone else! the aggressive queer-coding of the characters themselves!!!
