just to let y’all know. i’m going on a hiatus for the next week (or so). i’m going on vacation so i’m not gonna have my laptop with me so YEAH, expect replies + more activity when i get back.

        now that had been quite the mission. it had some ups and downs but at the end of the day he found that he worked surprisingly well with fitz—even enjoyed working with him ( god forbid ). grabbing himself a beer, he held one out to his partner with a smile before perching himself on the hanger door of the bus. ward wouldn’t lie, he did have his doubts in the beginning when hand had told him he’d be going on the mission with fitz, thinking he’d have to babysit him more than partner up with him but he had been pleasantly surprised.           what the boy had said to him—that fitz also wanted to protect & look out for ward—it had caught him off guard. it was rare for ward to ever even consider someone would be looking out for him. especially since he either worked alone, having always looked out for himself or so far on coulsons missions, having to look after the team ( aside from may ). he was still processing it, unsure what to do with the feeling it caused.           “ so, what did you think about your first mission? ” he said lightly, slapping his hand down against fitz’s shoulder—an action he had seemingly adopted from the younger male. taking a sip of his beer, he glanced over at fitz curiously.

               to say their mission had gone swimmingly would have been far from the truth, but the two men had made it out alive ( though fitz was still bitter about losing his beloved prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella sandwich ) and he and ward had even managed to bond during it. yes -- bond. if you’d told fitz a few weeks ago that he and ward would be genuinely getting along, he would’ve laughed, but here they were. it was actually kind of nice to be on good terms with the guy, and they had looked out for each other. in a way, ward was like the big brother he’d never had.

               he’d meant it though, when he said he was going to look out for ward -- sure, it had partly to do with coulson’s orders, but he wanted to prove himself, and he didn’t want to let ward down. and after that mission, he was beginning to think that he could almost be every bit the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent that grant ward was.

               it took him a moment to gather his thoughts about the mission, still trying to process everything that had happened -- it’d been a big day for him. ❝ terrifying. ❞ he admitted, glancing over to ward and taking a quick sip of the beer that the other had grabbed for him. ❝ but you had my back, so that made it a little less terrifying. ❞ he flashed a quick smile in the man’s direction. ❝ for a while, i missed being in the lab, but then i got to kick some ass and play the action hero, so that was a new experience for me. ❞
