felt the need for some acting/lipsync practice so i did another hilda animation. this one took me a good few days lol, I had to add a few features to the rig to make it do all the acting I wanted. I've had a couple months break from animating and before that I spent a while on a show with very limited lipsync needs so this was a good test of all the stuff I'm a bit rusty at

the rig was made by the talented studiospellcircle, the audio is from a bella ramsey interview, and the bg is taken straight from the show

DC summed up there opinions on characters in their early to mid-20s decades ago btw.

So many characters especially female ones are not allowed to actually grow up mature and are in some case genuinely infantilized in ways, none the less get mature storylines.

I went through name after name of characters that debuted as kids teens and aged up. There are so many that are suddenly, dumb, deaged, naive and/or immature to the point of it being a boring caricature randomly for 10381920 different reasons. God it’s annoying and sometimes whatever comic book logic. Like DC dug a hole completely erasing Kara reintroducing her was the most likely thing.

But why did Raven need to be deaged to be on the teen titans?

Why did Kori during rebirth become whatever that was?

Why did a hip and modern Babs mean losing her maturity? (Also god how some writers view the young.)

Why can’t the YJ crew just be victims to acting just a hair like their old selves around old friend and not feel 14/15 half the time now. I get immature 20 something year olds exist. But why is it nearly every character from 18-24 is damned at someone to regress so much farther than others.

it seems like the first overreaching arc of supergirl is done, and with that i can safely say this is not the book kara needed. from the art (which isn't bad by any means, but it has a very kid-cartoon aesthetic) to the story to the painfully juvenile way the characters talk and spell everything out, it's clear the book is meant for a younger audience.

that would've been fine if kara wasn't an adult woman written like a much younger teen. i'd say the kandor arc was a bit better than the rest, but that's simply because it was a connected story across a few issues, as opposed to the one-and-done stories in the previous ones. the writing stayed consistently mediocre throughout all 15 issues.

if it were a kids' book, it'd be a perfectly fine one. but it isn't. or, at least, it's not supposed to be.

kara needs an adult book. not in an edgy, darker way, but in the sense that she should actually be dealing with the things people in their 20s deal with: finding a job, moving to a new city, making new friends, dating, figuring out who she is and who wants to be. those are the kinds of stories that would let her grow as a character.
