the novelty of having pets really does never wear off i’ve had my cat for ten years and i still look at him strolling around like can you believe this. a cat. is everyone seeing this. he’s alive he has bones and all. unbelievable
me but it’s my bunnies, how can something so small and cute exist?!?!
i think one of the most wonderful traits of wei wuxian is how socially competent he is, which is why it always annoys me if he is mischaracterized as someone who is unaware about how those around him feel, just because of the way his relationship with lan wangji pans out in the books. the dynamic between them was extremely multifaceted and what seemed obvious to us was very rightfully NOT obvious to wei wuxian and he hardly had time to sort those feelings out, given the kind of harrowing ordeals he was going through. but that aside–the way wei wuxian’s “social competence” manifests isn’t just social courage–in that, the risk of embarassment or self-consciousness doesn’t stop his self expression–or just his general forwardness and social butterfly tendencies but also–and imo, most importantly–his perceptiveness and astute reading of people around him which comes from a deep understanding of the human social element, at the individual and the societal level.
he has full awareness of how his station is looked down upon in the cultivation world and so while others in his situation may bend or break–wei wuxian cleverly toes the line between the two until taking a stance becomes necessary. he deeply understands the ugly dynamics running within the jiang family and clan and acts accordingly–be it his prompt efforts to placate jiang cheng or his conscious silence when madame yu is in a mood or even his acceptance of the whipping in lieu of restoring stability for the clan. despite his personal biases against jin zixuan, he can recognise his bravery. even his scandalous move to begin undressing in the cave shows that he knows exactly what would make lan wangji tick.
hell, i’d say even his initial thought about how the resentment of the dead can be redirected towards a target shows his striking comprehension of how emotions work in general. what’s more, he’s able to recognise the machinations nie huaisang had employed and he was also aware of the bigger picture associated with how fickle and easily swayed mob mentality was when everyone took part in bashing jin guangyao when certain truths came to light. when he was first brought back to life, he quickly and correctly deduced what kind of life mo xuanyu must have led and how he could act in order to easily humiliate the mo family. he empathised with jin ling and yet realised how he was brought up left something to be desired and so, tried to inculcate some of his own highly regarded values to him.
the deft manner in which he handled the juniors speaks for itself–a good teacher will always have good communication skills and wei wuxian went above and beyond just “good”. his people skills on nighthunts are extremely helpful–his ability to make tongues loose simply by charming people is highlighted more than once. just off the top of my head–him politely appealing to jin guangshan about the wen remnants and apologising for “intruding”, him readily handing in his sword at the indoctrination camps, him suggesting to jiang cheng that he should leave the clan once he was at the burial mounds–all of this (and much much more) demonstrates wei wuxian’s competence at guaging complex social dynamics, which is why, when he goes against the current and stands firm, it is a deliberate, well thought out decision, one made after considering the risks and repercussions, and that makes wei wuxian’s stance at the end that much more powerful. he is not stumbling his way through life, is not unheeding of his social status, is not a “mad genius with poor social skills”. hell, i would say wei wuxian’s ability to see straight through people is more impressive than even his insane intellect and to reduce that aspect of him feels like a disservice to his character. because when it comes down to it, the fact of the matter is that the murky social world through wei wuxian’s lens is actually astonishingly clear.

Jiggy Guava is of course a pangolin and the fact that they're nearing extinction for being the most illegally trafficked mammal makes the whole "running away to Dongying with mama's corpse" plan darkly funny.
Lan Xichen would be a Vaquita Marina, a kind of porpoise endemic from Mexico, there are only 10 of them left, 10!! because they keep getting caught in illegal gillnets, which sounds very Lan Xichen coded.
Nie Mingjue- South American Horned Frog. Known for being the most aggressive frog species, it will attack anything, no matter its size. Also, just look at that face. My man is pissed at the universe.
Nie Huaisang as a Secretary Bird. Looks dainty and is serving 24/7 but can and will wreck you if you poke it enough. They hate snakes and Jinlintai is full of them.
Wen Ning as a Galapagos Iguana bc they look scary af but are actually very chill. They eat insects on land and dive for algae. Also, they look like mini-Godzillas.
Wen Qing as a Slow Loris, looks small and cute but can and will stab you with the venomous spikes in its elbows.
Yiling Patriarch Wei Wuxian as an Andine Condor. Big, intimidating, lives in the mountains and hangs out with corpses. Some people believe they're witches. They're actually very cool animals.
Angry Aubergine as a Tasmanian Devil. Just look at him, lil' angwy bebby.
And, finally, Jiang Yanli as a Japanese Sugar Glider for literally no reason other than how cute and soft it is.
I know I missed a lot of characters, but this was supposed to be a quick joke and it ended up taking three hours to make, I will make a part two when I have free time again

Yiling Patraich Wei Wuxian is so full of aura that people think that this version would top LWJ like honey..... didn't he get pinned to a tree and had his lip virginity taken by the "strong lady"???
just saw a blog trashing on jiang cheng (nothing new) and i was outraged, obviously. according to this person, "if jc didn't want wwx's core, why didn't he just give it back" and a bunch of other "takes" this is especially outrageous bcs jiang cheng hate is sooo normalised that some self-proclaimed fan could make such a wrong, inaccurate comment.
first of all, the core transfer was something jiang cheng did not know about or consent to. wei wuxian knew this, so he blatantly showed no regard for jiang cheng's opinion and gave his own golden core away. when i watched the untamed for the first time, i cried a lot. i cried bcs wwx got sooo much hate for choosing to cultivate in the demonic path, and all bcs he had no other choice. this was my thought before reading the book. after gaining some insight and trying to understand the story from jc's perspective, its almost like—why didn't wwx ask for jc's consent? why was wen ning blaming jc for that, "you could never be equal to him" i don't hate wen ning at ALL. i actually like him a lot.
BUT many people can say that "jc hated wen ning for killing jin zixuan too, when it was technically his fault" EXCEPT they (including wei wuxian and wen ning himself) didn't KNOW that killing jin zixuan wasn't wen ning's fault until the revelation in the guanyin temple. on the other hand, wen ning was PERFECTLY AWARE that jc was unconscious during the whole golden core transfer and genuinely had no idea that something like this happened to him. so wen ning, blaming jc for something that's not his fault, something he was not aware of is simply undeserved.
"why did jc not return wwx's core?" we don't know if he did that post-canon. "jiang cheng is homophobic" it was perfectly justifiable for jiang cheng to be mad at wei wuxian, who was not a part of the sect to take his unmarried lover to visit the jiang ancestral hall. an ancestral hall is where the dead members of a sect leader's family are honored, it is a place that is sacred and sensitive. shouldn't he have asked jiang cheng, the sect leader permission for entering the hall, as he was not a part of the sect anymore?
the other "take" is that jc is a child abusing perpetrator and someone who supported genocide. well, this is easily understandable. a 17 year old boy, who just lost his parents, had his home destroyed and inherited a sect during tumultuous political situation would definitely not be able to afford invoking the wrath of public and other powerful sects. he could not help a demonic cultivator protect innocents bcs he was ONLY 17 years old, trying to rebuild his home and run a WHOLE SECT. he couldn't afford to protect the wen remnants bcs he had his OWN people to look after. and the child abusing part—smh. he literally raised his hundred days old nephew by himself after his sister rushed into a battle field and got herself killed. if anyone's a child abuser, its yu ziyuan, not jiang cheng.
i find hilarious and outrageous when some people say that jiang cheng was apparently wei wuxian's abuser, that he saw wei wuxian as a servant. THIS MAN GOT HIS OWN GOLDEN CORE CRUSHED SO THAT WEI WUXIAN WOULDN'T BE CAUGHT BY THE WENS AND SUFFER THE SAME FATE!! who would do that for someone they consider a servant?? many people wouldn't even do that for a sibling. wei wuxian sacrificed his own golden core for jiang cheng bcs he felt like he owed jiang fengmian and yu ziyuan. he did that out of love, but also out of the thought of paying a debt. jiang cheng got his golden core crushed simply bcs he loved wei wuxian and didn't want him to lose his life. there is a difference.
"jiang cheng used to torture demonic cultivators, even when some of them weren't actually demonic cultivators" WHO TOLD YOU?? two juniors gossiping? that's the only source of information. so you choose to believe gossip in a story that literally says don't believe in gossip. "jin ling said that himself" jin ling spent most of his life in lotus pier. do you really think jiang cheng would bring a demonic cultivator in a place that jin ling lived in?
and apparently some of us are morons who don't blindly worship wei wuxian and lan wangji and actually criticize them for their actions. if jiang cheng participated in war, so did both of them. if jiang cheng killed people, so did wei wuxian. so did lan wangji. if jiang cheng has blood on his hands, so do both of them.
but jiang cheng is to blame for genocide, and war. right. smh.

a little fanart of my favorite skater in the whole world.
Amber inspires me everyday and even though she doesn’t know i exist i am forever grateful to her for the hope that she gives my by not giving up herself.
I’m very proud of Amber especially of her free skate in the olympics yesterday. It was beautiful and amazing.
But still my absolute favorite is her short program, i am in tears every time i watch it
