I adore this statue because of the introverted expression suggesting profound inner life of the person.

Roman mosaic from the House of the wounded Bear (VII 2, 45) in Pompeii.
It is located at the entrance of the house. “H A V E” does not mean “Hello” or “Welcome” in Latin, as many believe; its right meaning is “May you be well” .
It is curious that this is written next to the image of a powerful and feared animal wounded by a spear and bloodied.
I doubt that this is the boast of a bear hunter, and there is no mythological or religious relationship between bears and ancient Rome or Greece.
I think the owner sarcastically and with class, meant by this: "You better not mess with the owner of this house.“
By the way, this picture is the best that exists to see this mosaic; its definition, size, quality, are simply extraordinary.
