so this is about angella and catra post-season 5 and especially post-angellas recovery because i refuse to believe that wont happen
prior to angella’s recovery, catra gets repetitive nightmares about the whole thing, especially what would happen if she returned. it’s less about what might happen to her (because in her head she deserves the punishment) and more about what will happen to melog and adora
having never met angella, she has no idea what she is like or what will happen if she returns - she might punish adora for letting her stay, she might get rid of melog, etc
the whole thing becomes incredibly stressful, but when they’re starting the rescue mission, she insists on going with adora and glimmer to get angella out (its about the guilt and attempting to fix your actions)
angella initially has no clue that catra was the one who opened the portal in the first place - mostly shes genuinely surprised and pleased to see catra around bright moon
and catra is just sat there dealing with all this guilt for weeks jhjrnfjnmetjkf like angella will be walking around bright moon and thank her for doing some miscellaneous task (”oh, you fixed the faulty light in the corridor that’s been flickering since i was a child. nice job, catra” bc catra was the one who noticed it and got it fixed and catra’ll just be like :’] “thanks” and RUN)
like its genuinely making her lose sleep because shes worried about what angella is going to do to adora and melog if she discovers and gets mad
and then one day angella calls adora into her room and smiles and says “i know about the portal”
and adora FREAKS OUT because from the generally scared way catra’s been acting recently she knows whats being going on and rushes to defend and explain and just deflect because she doesn’t want catra to be punished in any way
and angella just listens with this serene smile and then she stops adora and says “i’m not going to punish catra for three reasons” and adora just. stops and stares at her
and she just says 1) because catra saved her and tried to fix what she’d done. if she hadn’t changed or tried to change things would have been a little different 2) because she would never intentionally hurt a person adora loves 3) “i think catra has suffered enough, don’t you?”
“and besides she’s already been royally pardoned :)” “she HAS???”
and adora just feels SO RELIEVED
and she stays and talks with angella for hours about gay shit (”so when did you actually realise you were still pining for your best friend?” “IT WAS OBVIOUS???”)
and adora just bursts out of angellas room smiling and just being a big ball of sunshine mwhsjerwhmerhbn
after hearing from guards that adora is angella’s room, catra’s just been hanging out nearby, definitely not waiting for her to come out no not her
and shes genuinely SHAKING and adora just RUNS OUT and hugs her and shes like OH SHIT WHAT HAPPENED
“ANGELLA SAID SHE WANTS YOU AT HER IM BACK BITCHES CEREMONY” “wh-”
and from then on they were besties <3 /hj
within about a week angella invites catra to her room (catra is still terrified) and sits her down and goes “tell me everything :)”
“when are you going to propose to adora?”
and they just become this mother and adopted daughter duo and its GREAT
angella starts calling catra fluffball because all the other creative nicknames are taken. catra really pretends not to like it but secretly it makes her soft inside because angella is the mother she never had
she immediately gets catras WHOLE DEAL too like from the moment she meets her shes like woah ok i understand everything
having spent enough time around adora she’s just like “oK this kid went through everything she did but way more physical and violent and shes healing from it but she really needs a proper mother figure to look up too
and shes not gonna like it if i force myself into her life so im just gonna be normal and hope she grows to trust me”
and thats what she does :)
like one time the rest of the gang are off on a space mission and catra and melog are waiting at bright moon with angella and micah as temporary leaders and she has a breakdown bc Haha What If This Isn’t Real :)))) and melog is trying to help calm her down but its Bad and angella sort of finds her curled up in a corner trying to talk herself down and comes and sits with her and talks to her until she feels a little calmer
and after she’s feeling a bit closer to normal angella goes and gets the tracker pad because its almost time for catra’s daily Gf Call and before she goes catra gets up and hugs her
which is a BIG THING because it takes a while for her to trust people and to open up to people and angella literally sat and listened to her vent and cry for an hour and actually helped talk her down and actually proved that she can trust her without anything being needed from her end
and it just gets better from there
so like they try and teach each other to bake jhsrjf,dkjm which ends in chaos and a lot of flour being thrown everywhere and theyre both completely in hysterics by the time they’ve created a single cake
and glimmer comes in and is like WTF and angella just hands her the smallest cupcake in the universe and goes :)
“whAT” “catra and i made it :)” “mum there is flour in your hair” “i know :)”
and catra just stands there and laughs
adora thinks its AMAZING and their mother/This Child Is Mine Now relationship is excellent jhdfkuhtjkfnd
