okay we talk about daphne, lisa, and amelia in the same breath because they all inhabit approximately the same era of spn and they all fulfill the same narrative role: woman as synecdoche for home who exists to tempt our hero away from the hunting life and his male homosocial bonds. but they're not actually like. similar levels of weird.

like, sam and amelia? genuinely actually completely reasonable romance. sometimes you're a weird freak who's reeling from grief and living in a motel and you meet another weird freak who's reeling from grief and living in a motel and you fall in love. amelia is a very three-dimensional-feeling character with motivations that make sense, and i don't think anything about her liking and wanting sam scans as off. the way she is framed, visually and narratively, is extremely strange, and she's underdeveloped because she was only in seven episodes. but she's not all that weird as a character.

cas and daphne? now that's weird. but the thing is... it's actually not the weirdest, imo. because the thing about daphne is that she's only in one scene, and she's never mentioned again. we have no idea what she's like or what her motivations are, so it's entirely contingent on us to extrapolate. and i think it is entirely possible to extrapolate a woman who would pull a naked amnesiac man out of a river and train him up to be a husband, and have that character make sense and have her own motivations. by far the weirdest aspect is that fact that cas never mentions her again. not in a like romantic way but in a "i lived with this person for six months while i was in a vulnerable state" way. surely that must have had some impact on him.

dean and lisa are by far the weirdest relationship. because lisa essentially did the same thing as daphne, but we like. saw her do it. lisa is a character who is heavily explored onscreen. and onscreen she is baffling. like. her motivations make very little sense, and the way she and dean relate to each other is off-putting and stepford-creepy. like lisa is the weirdest woman on this list.
