Lesbian Visibility Day 2026

I never thought I would get married because I never thought I would be brave enough to tell my family I was into women. By the age of 14, I knew I was lesbian. The worries of others not accepting me meant so much because I wasn’t accepting myself. But once I started dating my wife, Christiana, I had to tell everyone! I pushed through the fears of losing people and discovered a self-love that has grown over the last 12 years.

My goal for this year has been to love and take care of myself. I have learned to tend to my inner child and give little Jade the kindness she always deserved. I say no to things I don’t want to do, take myself on long walks, and go on solo dates, all as a form of self-care.

And because of that, I notice the difference in how I show up as a wife and partner. In taking care of myself, I have become a better spouse. One that shows up for Christiana because I also show myself genuine love and care every day.

I Didn’t Choose To Be a Lesbian – But I’m Happy For Doechii

"In a move that made the sapphic internet briefly explode, Doechii updated her personal Instagram bio to include the word “lesbian” this month. Then on February 11th, TikToker Malavika Kannan (@literarymal) posted that Doechii had called her Substack essay “powerful” before coming out.

And then the sapphic internet exploded again, because the essay in question is titled “Lowkey, I Chose To Be a Lesbian” and it is about being attracted to men and simply choosing not to date them, but calling yourself a lesbian anyway.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s note that Doechii has already addressed the controversy and distanced herself from the essay.

Out on the Town: Cunty NYE at The Bush

Living in Los Angeles for the past eleven years has spoiled me.

As my wife and I zipped up our coats, and walked briskly to the subway station on New Year’s Eve, I wondered how I had survived New York’s cold winters back in college.

We were in town for a week, starting the day after Christmas, and I wanted to find a New Year’s Eve party that catered to lesbians and bisexual women. After putting feelers out on my Instagram story, someone recommended an event called CUNTY NYE at a bar called The Bush. The tag line for this Bushwick-based establishment is “a dyke bar for the queers.”

After finding mixed reviews for The Bush online, I asked my friend Imani–who is local to the area–what she thought of the place. She assured me that while a regular night at the bar might at times be lackluster, the events are always really good. That was all I needed to hear to drop $60+ on two tickets to CUNTY NYE.

Help a Black Lesbian Couple Who Survived a Hate Crime

On July 20, 2025, Jamaria Gaskins and her wife were harassed, chased, and threatened by armed white supremacists in the state of Virginia.

One of the assailants aimed a gun directly at Jamaria while she was driving away, leading to a severe car crash.

Jamaria set up a GoFundMe to assist with she and her wife's recovery shortly after, and as of August 31st, 2025, they have only reached 16% of their goal.

We should ALL be outraged by this blatantly racist and homophobic attack. Additionally, I implore anyone who sees this post to show support by donating whatever they can directly to the couple's GoFundMe. Or to share the link.

Overall, a decent season. I sort of hope we get more, but I also feel bad watching these people destroy their relationships for our entertainment. The entire premise of The Ultimatum is bad, but dammit if you can’t make me watch it by putting lesbians in here.

Podcasts We Love: Thinking Straight

On our trips, I’ve noticed the proliferation of straight romance novels over the past few years. Books with titles like “Kiss Me, Maybe” and “The Smooch Experiment.” Have you seen these?

These stories seem to be getting wildly popular, but in my little lesbian bubble, I’ve barely heard anything about them.

Enter Nadine Santoro and Lena Wilson of the Thinking Straight podcast. Nadine and Lena are lesbians, and feminists, too, but Nadine works in publishing and Lena is a journalist, so they’re more willing to investigate this phenomenon. They’re also engaged to each other, which is super cute.

In their podcast, Lena and Nadine read one contemporary heterosexual romance novel per episode, then review it in this format:

I’ve spent most of my 20s in a PhD program studying biochemical and physical features of some interesting proteins. While grad school definitely has its challenges, I’ve been granted a lot of independence and space to grow and lean into what feels natural—both in and out of the lab.

The pillars of my life right now are photography, blacksmithing, choral music, and my thesis project, which is centered on electron microscopy and structural biology (fairly visual disciplines). They all reinforce each other in tangible and intangible ways—like I used money I made from photography to pay for a few vocal lessons to help with choir, I get ideas about things to make at the forge from work and from being around musicians, and I’ve photographed people and places from all my other activities. It’s important to me that I get to be creative and make things that I think are satisfying and effective. I love being around and collaborating with other lesbians, and I hope I get to do more of that in the future.

I have worked in the entertainment and production industry for over a decade, building an impressive resume across some of the most iconic events in television and music history. From the GRAMMYs and BET Awards to the Emmys, Golden Globes, and major productions like Friends: The Reunion, I have made my mark as a trusted talent escort on high-profile logistics teams. As a talent escort, I am responsible for the movements of an assigned talent on a show from the time they arrive at an event to the time they leave. That means, I am guiding them to rehearsals, on the red carpet, to their seats in the venue, to their dressing rooms, hair and make up e.t.c, all while coordinating with stage management and their own management teams. What I most love about what I do is getting to meet all kinds of celebrities and the teams that manage them while striving to create the best experience possible.

I am especially passionate about working with lesbian and queer talent, and I have had the privilege of working alongside some of my favorite artists and LGBT icons such as Doechii, Brandi Carlile, Jodie Foster, and Niecy Nash, as well as some of my favorite allies like P!nk and Kelly Clarkson. I have had some unforgettable moments in this line of work, including supporting Chappell Roan during her first GRAMMY win and performance.

Beyond the red carpet, I am a DJ (Hypeomania) and an event producer (Homology LA) who is dedicated to creating vibrant, safe, and inclusive spaces for the LGBTQ+ community in Los Angeles. I also serve on the production team for The Dinah Shore Weekend in Palm Springs. Right now, I am in the process of launching my latest community driven project: Lez Brunch! –A monthly brunch event built for lesbian and queer women. Lez Brunch! will blend music, mimosas, and community with a mission-driven twist—donating a portion of proceeds to nonprofits and mutual aid funds. The event debuts at Sorry Not Sorry in LA on May 17, 2025. 

When I am not behind the scenes or behind the decks, I love yoga, hiking, camping, traveling, and biking along the beach. One of my personal goals is to hike to the summit of Mt. Whitney this year. Wish me luck!
