Getting down on my knees and thanking the humans who invented dishwashers and washing machines.
InsNe that dishwashers are more efficient and easier than just washing them manually but they also use less water. Itâs a win win situation
They ALSO sterilize dishes, due to operating at a far higher temperature than human hands could ever tolerate. It's a win every way.
Made this post about 15 minutes after the repair guy who fixed the pump on my dishwasher packed up his tools and left, as the dishwasher was whirring along doing my dishes from that morning.
He said the exact same thing, which I did not know before that, so spreading this knowledge.
Practical tip for those dealing with wildfire smoke now: you can make a very effective air filter for a reasonable amount of money using a box fan & one of those filters meant for your furnace.
Also, I've managed to pick up 2 of the box fans for very cheap/free from yard sales. Make sure you get a filter rated for wildfire smoke, I think this one cost about $20.
These make a huge difference in the indoor air quality.
Posting again because of the fire situation up in Canada and resulting smoke. If you're dealing with wildfire smoke, these are surprisingly effective and relatively cheap.
Just tape the filter to the fan, making sure the air can't sneak around the edges. I used painter's tape, but I'm sure duct tape or similar would work just as well.

If youâre in an area with wildfire smoke, you need filtration. You need filtration that can handle wildfire smoke. There are three different popular rating systems for these, but hereâs a quick guide: You want FPR 10, or MERV 13, or microparticle filtration rate of 1500 (or higher.)
You might not be able to smell the smoke, you might not be able to feel it happening, but if the air quality index says the air is bad then it is bad and your health is suffering. Your pets, too. You need clean air for your health.
Please note that you should not run a box fan filter unattended though. The extra strain of pushing air through the filter can burn out the motors in cheaper quality box fans, which can be a risk. I have killed a box fan this way. The signs of it dying are pretty obvious, youâre not going to miss that, but you wouldnât want to keep the fan running while you left the house for a few hours.
Worth it for breathable air.

maybe this is too woke but i really hate the trope of naked older women = scary or vomit inducing or gross or whatever. like you even see it used in horror on occasion like oooooo so scary theres a woman with saggy boobs and wrinkles. Hey hey, as a librarian, can I just say donât pace yourself at the library. I get a lot of customers saying âoh I shouldnât get too many books out at onceâ but like you should!!!! Max out your card, take everything we have on a subject youâre interested in, make a book fort in your home. We love that shit! It doesnât matter if you read them or not; just take them for an adventure and bring them back whenever theyâre due!
For public libraries, one of the ways we secure funding year to year is lending. Governments donât want to fund more books if theyâre not being used and the way we measure use is by issues. Regardless of whether you read it or not, whether you have it for a day or a month, if you issue it to your library card, we get the stats! It makes the library look good!
Help your local library; get books out even if you know you canât read them all!
