Eleanor Nightingale is so thematically awesome I can write a whole essay on her and it still will not be enough
I keep thinking about her being a journalist, witnessing and documenting the horrors of war goes in parallel to her psychic powers as Nyx
She really is cursed to forever be the Narrator. First as a writer, then a telepathic voice in everybody's head. Witnessing the horrors through their eyes and feeling them as her own
Privy to everyone's inner world like she's not experiencing reality, but reading a book with characters instead
Her inner conflict, as I see it, is not only about not becoming a monster, it's about not giving into the apathy and dissociation that prolonged exposure like that brings. She sees reality as a book, and now she can write it. Manipulate people and their feelings for the best outcome. She knows their inner demons. Yet she detests doing it, for it would be denying others their humanity.
And I love that through Drifter she finally gets to be a Person, too
