it's all very well to say "friends are just as important as romantic partners" but in practice this simply is not the case lmao. you can share a flat with a friend but it's expected that sooner or later that friend will meet someone and will move out to go live with that person instead. if you're hanging out with friends you can bring your partner along but your friends can't come on a date night with you because that's third-wheeling and it's weird. you can know somebody for most of your life and still be second-best to some guy they met on tinder 6 months ago. you're meant to just accept without question the fact that your friends will prioritise time with their partners over time with you. being single is treated like a problem that needs to be fixed. we casually use expressions like "just friends" or "more than friends". everything we read and watch reinforces the idea that romantic love is what gives life meaning and therefore your life is meaningless. i try to keep my chin up but my god it is bleak out there

If their funding is from the UN and various countries, what's up with this fundraiser?

A massive amount of UNRWA's budget was just cut in the middle of a humanitarian crisis, as the US and a number of other countries cut off aid to UNRWA completely.

They cut off aid due to Israel's allegations that 12 members of UNRWA - out of thousands of employees - were linked to the October 7th attack.

UNRWA has lost so much funding that it's going to massively deepen the humanitarian crisis there - and that funding was cut off despite the fact that, as US Secretary of State Blinken admitted yesterday (January 31, 2024) that Israel's accusations have not "born out" yet, and that the US has not even investigated the allegations themselves.

This is especially glaring and unconscionable because Israel has a documented history of lying about the events of the Israel-Gaza war and their treatment of Palestinians. x, x, x

PSA for Google Docs writers

If you (like me) use Google Doc to write fanfic, you may (like me) have been annoyed by the new "feature" they added in the past few weeks, "Smart Chips," where by default every time you open a new line it auto-inserts a "@" symbol and then prompts to add additional people into the doc for review or whatever other useless thing I immediately closed out of.

There doesn't appear to be a way to turn off this "feature" in GDocs however someone has put out an extension that nixes it:
