*doom music starts to play* I actually kindof like scheduling these kinds of appointments now...
but seriously Fellas, don't forget to schedule a pap smear every couple of years just in case. If you still have a cervix you can still get cervical cancer. ilu
this has been a psa
It has been 9mo since I abandoned A Closed and Common Orbit halfway in rage but I still think about it when going to bed sometimes and that's a Curse
Reblog and put in the tags what’s the stupidest injury you’ve ever had
dude I haaaate that trans men are so often used as a gotcha by BOTH sides of transgender debates, as if it doesn't affect us.
anti trans bigots say shit like "well why don't we hear trans men complaining about being trans in sports?" even though we do... trans men are rejected from men's teams for "their own protection" for being "naturally weaker" but then we're exiled from women's teams for "doping" (aka using testosterone for their transition).
you also get trans allies and other trans people being like "(points at trans man) you don't want THIS in you women's bathroom, do you??" as if trans men arent subject to violence from cis women in restrooms too, and framing us as predators in the women's bathroom will only exacerbate that.
we are not just tool for your debate, our safety is on the line. you should only ever say "well what about trans men?" if you're saying it to advocate for us and to stand up for our rights in a compassionate way, alongside the rights of all other trans people, not as a way to be like "ah ha! I bet you forgot about trans men! I've found a hole in your logic!"

As previously mentioned, I am very happily a parental figure to two kids that I played no part in conceiving, which means for those keeping score that I got to jump straight from Maiden to Crone in something of an accelerated program.
Anyway, these kids are semi-obviously not my biological progeny in that they have their dad’s spectacular eyebrows that I covet every day while I am resentfully drawing mine on, and their gorgeous, ethereal, very very very blonde hair from their mom’s side.
So like, we’re walking the kids through the grocery store parking lot to buy dinner the other day, and a woman stops in the crosswalk to look at me, look at my boyfriend, look at the kids, and then loudly ask “WHERE’D THAT BLONDE COME FROM?”
And I’m just like momentarily frozen, like, do I have to explain to this biddy “hey yeah these aren’t my biological kids but they are my boyfriend’s, but rest assured that the divorce was extremely amicable and also i’m a solid stable fixture in their life and they actually take after their mom’s family-“
and then my boyfriend, (who is for the record a fucking stud) eliminated all that worry by saying (very sexily and without breaking his stride in the least):
“The mailman.”
and ooooooooo her indignant faaaaaace i love him so much
i'd like us as a society to be able to get to a point where we can candidly discuss suicide without people going all 😢🙁😖😯🫢 on you the moment you mention it
I am not exaggerating in the slightest when I say behavioral healthcare providers have been the biggest barrier to getting help for suicidal depression that I have encountered.
There'd be a hell of a lot less suicide if the people we get forced into seeing for mental health care didn't have people kidnapped and assaulted for talking about it. Utter dipshittery.
I have come to realize that, to me, one of the worst crimes a piece of fiction can commit is being mean-spirited. Just about anything else can be good in certain circumstances. But a mean-spirited work diminishes anyone who encounters it.
I don't know who needs to hear this but please please please please please explore the settings. Of your phone, computer, of every app you use. Investigate the UI, toggle some things around and see what happens. You won't break anything irreperably without a confirmation box asking you if you really mean to do that thing. And you can just look up what a setting will do before touching it if you're really worried ok?
Worst case scenario you just have to change the settings back if you don't like what happened but it is so so so important to explore the tools available to you and gain a better understanding for how the stuff you use works.
Even if you already know. Even if you're comfortable with how you use it now. You don't just have to accept whtever experience has been handed to you by default and it's good for you to at least know what's available to you.
Yeah. I've been "good at computers" since I was a kid and since I was a kid I've been telling people that all it is is a willingness to look at settings and push buttons.
Computers are good at "are you sure?" and "reset to defaults". There's a safety net. Go look at the options, and push 'em if you're not sure. That's like 90% of being "good at computers" : not being scared to push buttons and fiddle with options when something is broken or you need to learn a new thing
sometimes your distress does indicate you should stop and respect your limitations. at other times it's more of a baby aquatic mammal being introduced to water for the first time thing. Too bad the difference is so hard to tell.
We need the obnoxious atheists back. I know they engineered their own destruction by being annoying and pretentious, but it has become apparent how essential to the ecosystem they were. The religious fanatics have become too bold without their natural predators. Jesus wojaks would have been torn to shreds in 2011.
the solution is female obnoxious atheists. the male ones all went obnoxious atheist -> virulent misogyny -> right wing extremist.
There was no social justice campaign to silence all atheists. That is Christian levels of persecution complex. The anti-theist movement went hard right in 2016 because they hated Islam (and feminism, for some reason) more than they actually cared about the human rights that are violated by religious extremism. They're still doing this shit. Bill Maher praises JK Rowling and Richard Dawkins joined the dogpile on Imane Khelif.
I regret using soft language in my original post. You people engineered your own destruction by being every bit as hateful and close-minded as the fandamentalists you hate.
I encourage you to be as irreverent about religion as you like, but you also have to take responsibility for your community.
Remember when Richard Dawkins started making War on Christmas posts, about how secular/Jewish/whatever people were trying to make Holiday Trees and Holiday Vacations? What the fuck was that about.
We still have a huge supply of people who claim all religion is toxic and then their reasons are things that at most apply to a specific sect of Christianity.
And people that act like atheists are the most oppressed religious minority
And people that say things like "when we eliminate religion..." not realizing that is lowkey a genocidal fantasy (necessitates eliminating cultures)
Also hate to break it to you but we have plenty of female obnoxious atheists....in the TERF community
as someone in clinical psych, it drives me up the wall that everyone accepts as a goddamn fact that stress is directly linked to weight gain, and yet every single study on diet and exercise just… ignores this as a confounding factor? it’s gotten to the point where if i open a study on weight and don’t see a stress measure anywhere i just close it again because EVERY TIME the behavior they’re saying causes weight gain is… surprise… a behavior people do when they’re stressed. so either the behavior itself is a spurious correlation to the already established causal relationship between stress and weight gain, OR the behavior does contribute some unique amount to variability in health outcomes, but we’re ignoring why people are doing that behavior. like ok maybe eating nothing but spaghetti-o’s causes you to gain weight. why is no one ringing alarm bells going WHY IS THIS PERSON SO STRESSED THEY CAN EAT NOTHING BUT SPAGHETTI-O’S? the intervention is always “eat less spaghetti-o’s” not “holy fuck what can we address in your life so you aren’t forced into the miserable existence of eating nothing but spaghetti-o’s.” setting aside “why is weight loss even your outcome variable,” if weight loss IS your target why the FUCK are you ignoring this piece! i am grabbing my fellow scientists by the shoulders and shaking them vigorously!!
HELL! FUCKING! YES!!!!!!!! You, YOU keep talking!
when i was shopping earlier i saw a product where, instead of there being a price tag, there was a qr code. and they wanted you to scan it to get the price. i wonder what it would feel like to be a wolf and to full force bite onto something's throat. your hunger satiated and your thirst quenched. your enemy defeated. in one swift follow-through.
I know this is a tiny part of the wider problems born of diet culture, fatphobia, classicism, and racism but like god the idea that "healthy" food must inherently taste bad has completely ruined us as a society.
Every time you feel bad for having coffee with cream and sugar or ranch on your salad or putting extra butter and salt on your veggies I want you to imagine the spirit of John Harvey Kellogg in front of you and then I want you to kill him with a real gun and eat your delicious food in peace.
For research (and due to my own grievances):
Did you actually enjoy/are you actually enjoying PE classes in school overall?
Yes, they are great!
They are fine, I guess?
Explicit neutral option
Dislike them (but not strong feelings about it)
Dislike them (but with strong feelings about it. bane of my existence etc.)
Nuance/did not have them/I would like to yell at you in the tags
Reblog for bigger sample size (or don't, but I will be yelling at you from the sidelines)
So. Mandatory PE classes in the US are often (I would say always) conducted to some degree in an unnecessarily authoritarian, coercive, abusive, traumatic way. They do not respect students' consent and teach children that adults are allowed to judge your body and dictate how it is used. They foster bullying and violate the boundaries of students who don't want to shower or undress around other students. They may allow the presence of adults in a space meant for showering or changing minors. The military way most gym teachers treat their students is unnecessary, disrespectful, harassing, bullying, and sometimes frightening, and allows students to be targeted for abuse because they are "lazy", a label that disproportionately falls upon disabled/neurodivergent/struggling students. This aggressive conduct is considered normal and necessary, and the teachers are supported in this by administrators who are also complicit in the mistreatment of students in every other area of school. Despite the term "Physical Education", students are usually not taught how to exercise safely, or how to do it in a healthy, enjoyable way. The class literally does not exist to do that.
School in the US is horrendous in nearly every conceivable way, and PE may be the most egregious example of it. Some teachers might be mostly okay, and certainly some students thrive somehow in this septic environment, but that doesn't mean the rest isn't rotten. I was full-on assaulted in gym/homeroom and had to be treated for a concussion, while the teachers did nothing to intervene, nor did administration do anything more to my attacker than they did to me.
So yeah, I hated it. I saw it for what it was then, and I hate it even more now that I know how to explain how I was right.
Found at the same thrift store I keep finding hentai mangas at, and the workers leave in the shelf bc the district manager says, "They sell it in Londondrugs, so it's fine"
To be clear tho, K-On is very much Not Hentai
