Lauren will be playing three shows this coming week, which is an excellent opportunity to catch this undefinable, awe inspiring, unforgettable musician. She has triumphantly overcome difficult struggles, but her pure being and dedication to hers and other local musician efforts has opened many a door that was previously closed. For that, I am forever a fan, and I will always do what I can to support your musical journey in life. However, I feel she is on the runway, and all systems are go. Les RAV – “Darkest”

  ***SXSW 2013 – OEB FRESHMAN FAVORITE***

  Pairs Well With…Fiona Apple, Jolie Holland, Ellie Goulding

  In a set that’s oddly stacked with female folksters, orchestral pop band Les RAV stand out for a variety of reasons.  Frontwoman Lauren Bruno employs fascinating jazz inflections in her melodies, but delivers lines with emotional abandon.  Alone, this would be worth noting, but Les RAV specialize in a true form of orchestral folk.  Employing a string quartet masterfully on a few tracks or just mining traditional musical counterpoint on piano, there’s always that classical nature.  It doesn’t sound like an add-on as with many anthemic folk acts, rather the basis for which Les RAV’s quiet elegance can find a home.  Though Les RAV can be considered a ‘baby band’ on SXSW terms, they do hail from Austin and will hopefully bring at least a quartet as they gig throughout town in March.
