♠ Anubis was pleasantly surprised at the young pup’s curiosity, his own tail wagging gently as he spoke. How very refreshing to be met with such childlike and innocent wonder, to be seen as equal rather than a step above the rest. Yes, he immediately felt a kinship growing.
“King? What a royal name you bear, my friend,” the jackal bowed his head in reverence, chuckling, although it came out as a low, ominous echo, “names hold great power. You must be destined for big things.”
What an odd yet befitting name for such a small creature.
His own revelation must have stirred something within the pup. Anubis did not know of his origin or if there truly was a relation, but he also did not know every divine entity in existence, and he preferred not to proclaim judgement until a definitive verdict was reached.
However, King’s enthusiasm was too precious to be soiled by rationale or premature conclusions. For now, the jackal would play along.
“The God of Demons? That is quite the impressive title, it holds a lot of responsibilities I am sure.” Of course he was familiar with demons, the guardians especially. They were not only agents of chaos, but also guardians and protectors. Human souls who tried to enter the afterlife without Anubis’ permission were usually cast out and eaten by demons. While not looking like King, the animalistic features were part of the course. Although he had never seen anyone like him before.
The God nodded, “I hail from a far away land beyond the borders of the living where the dead come to rest. The mortals call it the afterlife.” A place his father ruled over but where he found a life and purpose. “I also guide lost souls there, just like the man you see over there.”
Noir, still sitting unbothered and distracted on the bench, was one of those lost souls, and Anubis took great pride in his mission to guide him through to the afterlife. “A lot like us exist, gods and demons and angels, some of them even resembling us. But not quite.”
“Even you look different from the demons I know, my King. Where can one find this Demon Realm you speak of? It must be your kingdom?”
