💭 + ghosts
“The question is whenever you are referring to ghost monsters or. . . the spirits of the dearly departed.
Because I have intimate knowledge of the latter! It has its pros and cons, but also, it is just a little awkward when you are awaken from what you assumed was an eternal slumber attached to a stranger.”

Send 💭 + a topic and my muse will tell you what they think about it.
send me questions you have about my character!
anything and everything. favorites. thoughts on people, on events. what they would do in a certain situation. how things would be different if something had/hadn’t happened. simple questions, complex questions. have at it!
“Oh, no, she is not. . . she does not see me that way, I do not think. I am more like a babysitter. Or an older neighbor, maybe. I would be a terrible big sibling.”
The switch of topics seems to be a relief to Chara, though. They hum and roll their shoulders.
“if they are not salvageable, I can help you procure new ones. It is okay, ma’am.”
* If You Say So, Chara * I Think You Have It In You * And You Are A Good Friend To Her Either Way * Also: * "Ma'am"? * Whatever Happened To "Mama"?
She laughs good-heartedly and pats them on the head.
* I'll Keep You Notified Re:The Flowers * And Miss Yellowslug Too (Almost Forgot About Her) * They Assigned Me To A New House In Cotes Fantasci But I Haven't Had The Chance To Get Settled In
“— right. I. I apologize . . . mama. I did not ask you for permission, though, so I was. Not sure. my tongue slipped before in my excitement.”
Their cheeks grow ruddier, but they give a gentle, shy smile.
“If you would like, I can help you get started on growing more flowers if yours have wilted. We could do it together. That. . . it would be fun. I would like that.”
They should be happy about this.
It’s been years since they last saw Asgore as. . .themself. The last time the king held their hand was when their body was broken and dying. They should be happy! They should be excited about being able to start over.
but there’s that —
that guilt.
“I saw . . . his name. During the eclipse. I thought — I hoped — it was your Asgore, but — I was . . . scared.
I was coming home. . . but he bumped into me. And.
I. . .
I made him cry.”
Chara sniffles. They’re glad, at the very least, Kris remembers to give them space. They can’t handle more touching right now.
“I wish he had not seen me. It would be better that way. He would be happier if I was not. . .here.”
Kris listens quietly to Chara, not really sure how to respond or feel. Disappointed that it isn't their dad, that if they ever ran into him, he'd never recognize them and would just see them as a stranger or, worse, like a Chara that got to grow up. Layered on top of that disappointment, is sympathy.
Chara doesn't deserve this kind of hurt and Kris should be ashamed of themselves for feeling envious. It makes them feel like a bad person - more so than usual anyway.
"... That's not true." Kris says finally, quietly. "I think... he probably spent his whole life mourning you. If he's anything like my dad... then he didn't let go easily. And... this is probably the happiest he's been in a long time." Kris picks at the knees of their pants.
They offer Chara a small smile despite their muddled feelings.
"You deserve to be happy, and... if you want to have a relationship with him, you should while you have the chance." Kris has no idea if they're giving good advice. They don't even know if they would be able to take that advice. "It might give you - and him - some closure..."
Some part of Chara knows they’re being deeply selfish right now. Kris misses their family, more than Chara could probably ever understand. They shouldn’t be clinging to the older teen like a child, but —
But . . .
if anyone were to understand this feeling, it would be Kris.
“when . . . when Frisk and I were on our journey, I thought so too. He. . . Declared war on humans just because Asriel died taking me to the surface. but . . .
when we talked to him. . . he only mentioned my brother. He did not talk about me, not once. I want to — see him, to talk to him, but. . .”
a pause. A sniffle. Chara scrubs their eyes.
“I am scared. It is stupid. I know this. I cannot help it.”
Chara laughs, offering a hand. “Let us go, then.”
The older child doesn’t lead them to the forest, or to the desert or the ocean; instead, Chara directs Anya to a suburb tucked away in Fibonacci ward, and to a large house with a garden tucked away.
nestled in the biggest tree is a house made of planks. There’s a ladder, and fairy lights blink from the open air window.
“We can plant them at the base here,” Chara points. “Is this acceptable, Miss Anya?”
Anya follows Chara eagerly with a bounce in her step, looking around for any sign of a big tree with a mansion in it. Or maybe the mansion is a tree. Or maybe the tree house leads to an underground secret base! Chara's cool like that, so it's got to be something neat. Tree houses can be lots of different things. It must be big if they have a garden in it!
Imagine her utter disappointment when it's not a super cool magic tree house or something and just a regular one.
It's normal...
Maybe Anya's just used to her friends having big giant houses. Chara seems happy about it though... so Anya can suck it up. Spies... have to roll with the punches. Even if said punches are the crushing reality that not every tree house is a secret base.
That only happens in cartoons.
Luckily, she's easily distracted by the prospect of gardening. The entire reason she was even there to begin with.
"Oh! Yeah! Can I dig the holes?"
It might not be fancy or cool, but it’s cozy and has fairy lights decorating the inside. It’s a place that Chara can curl up in when everything gets to be too much, and that’s what matters to them.
“Of course you can. We will need many different holes. You can use Papa Vash’s tools,” they point to the little shovel resting at the base of the tree, “and then we can plant them and cover them back up. Is that acceptable, Miss Anya?”
"Hey, kid."
"You been seemin' a li'l off lately. Somethin' on yer mind?"
He crouches beside them on the living room floor, opening up a brown paper bag and reaching in for the brownie inside. Wolfwood offers it over to them. It's got chocolate chunks in it and is still warm.
"Or just them teenage woes?"
@charadrxxmxrr
Chara’s always has a bad habit of keeping things to themself. They’re well aware of this, and they know that it’s not the correct route to take.
But their brain knowing something is one thing, and their heart listening is another.
Had they been more quiet than usual? Chara isn’t sure. They’ve withdrawn a little, maybe, but this isn’t anyone else’s problem. It’s their own, something they need to figure out how to atone for. Regardless, they look up at Nicolas, before looking back down. They don’t take the brownie bag, even though the thought of the extra chocolate is incredibly tempting.
“I am fine. The weather has been very hot lately. That is all, Nico.” A pause, before they quickly add reflexively, “thank you for looking out for me.”
“Vash and Nico and Kuroneko are all still doing good, yes,” Chara confirms as they scroll through their phone, before holding up some photos of their garden that they took. “I have a new friend too. Well. Sort of. She is a little girl. I have been trying to keep an eye on her so she is not lonely. Her name is Anya.”
Taking their phone back, Chara skims through some more photos, before tucking it back into their pocket.
“I am glad that you and your son are having fun. Being a ball sounds interesting. I think I know some people who may enjoy something like that.”
Queen smiles at the good news.

She hopes they're alright...
“Oh. I see. Thank you.”
The smile on their face looks disingenuous, but really, they’re just nervous. Chara handles angry grownups probably better than kids their age should. Really, they had forgotten the matter entirely — filed it under just another interaction that proved Chara wasn’t fit for talking with most people.
But he came to apologize. The child twirls the flower crown in their hand, humming a little.
“I made a lot of these for my brother. And I make them here, now, a lot. Though I have more people to give them to here, I suppose.”
Chara’s grin reminds him of Ivan’s when they were kids… But he also remembers how the other kids in their class would make fun of Ivan’s awkward smiles, and Till tries not to let it bother him.
“Yeah? I’ve got a lot more people here too! And I used t’ get into fights with people who were mean to my friends all the time when I was your age... You must care about ‘em a lot.”
Till hesitates.
“Is your brother… here?
“. . .”
They don’t flinch, but Chara won’t look at him, either. They stare down at the half-finished flower crowns and ponder for a moment.
“no. He is not here.
It is better that way. He cried easily. This place, with so many strangers, would frighten him. It is better that he is at home.”
“. . .”
Oh, Oliver has no idea how funny he is. Chara sniffs, hums, and keeps their eyes on the horizon, too nervous to look back at their friend.
“A power, huh.
I suppose the power to turn back time would be useful. Being able to reverse mistakes or course correct to the most fruitful path would definitely reap more positives than negatives.
. . .
theoretically speaking, of course.”
Why did this feel like dejavu? Like Oliver has felt something like this happen. Time turning back, reversing mistakes and such.
"Yeah, that sounds like a cool power," He ends up saying with a nod. Must be just a feeling. Still, he can't help but feel like something like that has happened. Countless times.
"Heh, you could even cheat on tests, probably too!"
“If I went to school, certainly that would be a possibility. However, I have too much integrity to cheat. I would simply use time resets to study more so I would not have to.”
Hopefully Oliver doesn’t think too hard on that déjà vu. It’s easier to just pretend, after all.
“Theoretically. It would be very cool.”
“There is nothing too particularly exciting going on in my life. Uhm. Kris and I do stuff together. My father is here now.”
they’re acting like they didn’t say it. . . even though they totally know they did.
“My garden is good. It bloomed nicely after the winter.
. . .
How . . . are you?”
* Oh Okay
Remembering Chara's strained relationship with their father, Queen thinks better than to ask.
* And How Are The Vashwoods * Still Good?

@charadrxxmxrr asked:
Chara bites their bottom lip, looking up to queens “Mama? You. . . are back?”
* Yes Sweetie I'm Right Here * It's Good To See You Again, Little Chara * How Have You Been Lately, Gotten Up To Anything Exciting? * And How Has Your Garden Growing?
Still calling her "mama"... How sweet.
“There is nothing too particularly exciting going on in my life. Uhm. Kris and I do stuff together. My father is here now.”
they’re acting like they didn’t say it. . . even though they totally know they did.
“My garden is good. It bloomed nicely after the winter.
. . .
How . . . are you?”
Ask my muse questions about their relationship with another character.
“Mettaton and Alphys were here for a few scant months. But I did not talk with them often. They. . . did not know me. Not the way they knew. . .”
Frisk. Chara wills their eyes to stay dry. The child swallows and accepts the handkerchief back, tucking it away before folding their hands together. They won’t cry. They won’t cause Asgore any pain.
They will be good. They will be good.
“I am fine.” They won’t say they’re not lonely, though they know it’s a selfish feeling. They have friends here. It’s not right for them to say they’re lonely when they have friends. It’s unfair and cruel, so Chara keeps it to themself. “I am residing with a married couple in a quiet neighborhood I am headed to. But. . .”
Chara can tell Asgore is getting uncomfortable. They pause, before offering their hand.
“Would you like to go to my garden with me? It will be quieter. You will be able to process things properly.”
Mettaton and Alphys were here. He files that information away. It's good to know. Unfortunate that he missed them, but the entertainment robot hadn't ever seemed too thrilled to actually be in his presence, and Royal Scientist had grown quite nervous around him ever since... the...
Chara draws his mind away from that. They've been cared for. That's good. A married couple. There is, admittedly, a harsh sting of—jealousy? Envy? He isn't sure. There is relief, too, that Chara has trusted someone else enough to allow them to care for them during their time here.
Maybe he could meet them, just to say thank you. They must be good people for Chara to put their well-being in their hands.
"Your garden?" He seems to perk up a bit at that. Asgore glances at the tiny hand outstretched towards him. The wobbly smile gets a little more genuine. "I think I'd like that. I'd love to see the little ones you've been tendin' to...!"
He pushes himself up to his feet. The exposed hand reaches down to envelop Chara's entirely, along with a good portion of their forearm. Asgore's hold is not too tight, allowing them enough room to slip out of his grasp if they desire it.
There is still a part of him that isn't sure if this is real, even with the assurance it isn't some sick dream. But, for now, he can hope, right? That for a little while, he has... part of his family back with him.
Chara leads the monster king through the streets with knowing steps — quieter boulevards, not as noisy as the main parts of the city. They don’t let go of Asgore’s hand for a second, even as their palm starts to itch.
No, this is — fine. It’s fine. Everything’s fine.
Chara leads their father to the forest, past the remains of a broken down treehouse and into the trees.
The expanse of trees parts after a few strides, to show a small flower garden. The one that Chara’s been cultivating since they got here, surrounded by colorful snails and glowing mushrooms. The young Dreemurr steps carefully, gesturing for Asgore to take a seat.
“We have a vegetable garden at home,” they say, “but this is my secret. I planted them all by myself.”
They had parted ways with Asgore not that long ago, but they can’t stop shaking. Vash and Nico are out right now, so instead of sucking it up and dealing with the sudden feelings alike, Chara selfishly turned to the only person in the world who might be able to understand.
“. . . — Kris.”
They're sitting in a corner of the room, clutching their phone in one shaking hand while the other tries to scrub at the tears that block their vision. They can’t stop crying, despite how childish and demeaning it is for them to. Other people are allowed to cry, but Chara isn’t.
“ha ha ha. . .
Kris, I — m-my dad, he. . . ha ha ha! Asgore — he — he’s here, he saw — me. . .”
Kris's first instinct is to be concerned; they've seen Chara cry before but it's still kind of jarring to see. It reminds them immediately of how young Chara actually is despite how hard they try to act like they're above childish things like crying. They cross the room, kneeling down in front of them.
They wait patiently, a knot in their stomach, for Chara to tell them what the hell has them so upset.
Did someone hurt them? Did something else happen?
Did something happen to their dads?
They freeze when Chara finally get the words out.
"D..." Kris cuts themselves off.
It isn't their dad, otherwise Chara would have said that it was. But Asgore is still... whatever Kris is feeling dissolves into disappointment, but they keep it off their face to the best of their ability. Kris's mouth goes dry as they gently pull the phone out of Chara's hands and set it aside. "He's here? Is... what..." Kris has no idea how to respond.
But they... definitely understand. Or at least they think they do.
Kris moves to sit next to Chara, trying not to crowd them or touch them more than necessary to avoid overwhelming them.
After a few beats of quiet thought, Kris tries again.
"Was... what happened?"
They should be happy about this.
It’s been years since they last saw Asgore as. . .themself. The last time the king held their hand was when their body was broken and dying. They should be happy! They should be excited about being able to start over.
