my favorite part of the video was how when they would talk about their insecurities or how they’ve overcame something, dnp would encourage the other with little “yep”s or “yeah!”s and i found that so adorable. like they have the others full attention and they’re genuinely so intrigued and cautious of the eachothers feelings. that video was a lot saRAH AND MY HEART IS SO FULL
my heart is so full (and also, interestingly enough, sad) that i spent the past like three hours doing some very personal timestamps. here they are if you’re interested. they’re not really funny or screamy but more like, introspective.
0:54 - discussion of what mukbang actually is. i feel like dan is probably right in a way, it probably did start out as something kinky, but that’s definitely not what it is now. he says later in the video something about how ‘this is us at our most vulnerable’ and i think maybe that’s what it’s about for most viewers now. there actually is something kind of vulnerable and intimate about eating, so to me the thing about mukbang that people love is seeing creators they love in a state that’s somehow more open than they might normally be in.
1:43 - ‘whenever we’ve been on some kind of harrowing journey or adventure..’ ‘whenever we’ve just been really upset… when anything’s very difficult and emotionally draining’ they fill the hole with dominos. ‘we are sharing this extremely sacred dan and phil tradition with you.’ idk guys, this is just really really sweet. even just the wording they chose to use there speaks volumes. first of all, it’s all we, like all their trials and tribulations are experienced together, their emotional hardships are shared, and the fact that they’re actually sharing something they refer to as a ‘sacred tradition’ with us speaks to the leaps and bounds they’ve made in terms of comfort levels in revealing how important they are to each other and how committed they are to the life they’ve built together. i sound sappy already, but it’s just… they’re so settled. they’re so deeply comfortable together that they have all these little rituals. like even just the word ‘tradition.’ how many times have they ordered dominos after dan comes out of a particularly bad episode? after posting videos they’ve spent days editing? after public appearances?
