Guyanese-British actor Letitia Wright, an Emmy nominee for Black Mirror and a standout in Marvel movies, on her own country’s complicated racial history.
I am rooting for her so hard to get the same plethora of lead role opportunities in her twenties as her light and white contemporaries. Leading a Steve McQueen piece is a nice step in that direction!!

SL: What’s it been like to be a Disney princess?
LW: It’s been cool. I haven’t really let that sink in, because that’s overwhelming. Overwhelming because it’s such a big thing, because I haven’t seen a lot of dolls that look like me, and to be able to have this now, and have characters celebrated in such a way that people are just so happy and inspired, it means a lot. If you want to call my character a Disney princess, that’s awesome. As long as that’s an impactful thing, and positive for our future and our children — awesome-sauce. X
On her go-to party beauty look
For going out, I’m more of an eyes person, I like to keep everything neutral with my lips. We try to do something funky or make it pop. You know, dark eyeshadows, really big eyelashes sometimes. Nothing crazy - I always try to make everything stay in alignment with myself. I just want to enhance what’s already there, you know? X
