The First Time *Flashback*
Notes: Finn needs some help with his homework and Rachel offers to help.
Finn knew Quinn would be upset, she always was when it came to his and Rachel’s friendship, but she was at cheerleading practice and he needed help studying for the exam tomorrow. He knew that Rachel was one of the smartest people he knew and that she probably wouldn’t be busy so after a quick call to check, he grabbed his keys and headed over to her place.
On the way, he thought about his relationship. After he and Rachel had broken up, it hadn’t taken him long to end up back with Quinn, or rather, letting Quinn convince him that they should be together again. She was right, they did make a good couple and it made since for the head cheerleader and quarterback to become the ‘it’ couple. Still, there were doubts about their relationship. She seemed to only want to do things together when it was convenient for her, she never wanted to do more than make out with him. It was frustrating and often lead to arguments to which Quinn would just distract him enough to where he quit being mad.
Rachel seemed to the only person in his life right now that didn’t seem to want anything from him. She was his friend, his best friend despite everything so it was easy to feel normal around her. He finally arrived and promptly knocked on her door, his stomach in knots. It is going to be fine, Finn, relax. You love Quinn. Rachel is just a friend. You didn’t work out for a reason. Relax. She’s just going to help you s…. “Hi Rachel.”
Rachel couldn’t believe she had said yes to having Finn over. Ever since their breakup, they had been awkward with each other. She had been trying so hard to just be friends with Finn but when they had broken up, it hadn’t taken Finn long to get back together with Quinn, and Rachel wished she could be surprised about it, she wished that she could turn off the hurt, but she couldn’t. She had finally started to open up to being friends with Finn and to moving on with her life. Finn and she were done, over and never happening again. Imagine her surprise when she had gotten a call from Finn asking if she would help him with studying for a big test they had the next day. She had said yes without even thinking about how awkward she might feel to have Finn over again. But it was too late.
She went around cleaning up her dining room table. Her Dad’s were out of town for a conference so she made a quick batch of virgin cosmos and laid the pitcher on the table along with some fruit before going to grab her books and notebooks. When she heard the knock on the door she bit her lip and looked over at it. She could still say no. Something had come up. She couldn’t study with him after-all. She went to the door and took a breath in and let it out before sliding the door open. “Hey Finn...Come on in...”
