Jaco Pastorius: Third Stone from the Sun
Not music related but Laurence Olivier's version of Hamlet is so underrated and it's incredible.
Loving Umm Kulthum's soul power
I was watching an interview with David Bowie on the Dick Cavett show yesterday, and I didn't realize how few people understood what gender fluid meant. I felt like Cavett was just asking Bowie about the way he dressed, as if his clothes determined his personality. I wonder how different it would be if he was rising to fame now. What kinds of questions would people ask him? Would he seem more or less unusual than he was then?
“I never had much interest in the piano until I realized that every time I played, a girl would appear on the piano bench to my left and another to my right” - Duke Ellington, 1960
She Past Away--Asimilasyon
Sorry I haven't posted in awhile--I've been really enjoying Janis Joplin & Big Brother and the holding company. I especially like this photograph, as I think it really shows her role in the band. She was looked up to and she bossed those guys around. Another incredibly talented personality who left this world too soon.
This weeks favorites: The Clash, Jimi Hendrix, and Prince (1999)
