I am very disappointed in the trencher community. I honestly feel like people are romanticizing his life, acting like this is all some stupid ass fault in our stars bullshit. Josh is not some god to worship and go to for advice. He has insecurities just like all of us. And like all of us, when our insecurities are showing, we tend to not act like ourselves. YOU WANNA KNOW WHY HE’S ACTING LIKE THIS?THESE TWEETS ARE EXPOSING HIS INSECURITIES! How would you feel if someone put their own life in your hands? I would feel pretty fucking uncomfortable.
I’m just so done. When I became a trencher, I was hoping to be part of a community that would treat the band with respect. I wanted to have fun and make friends and talk about why music is incredible. However, I’ve been thrown into a hostile community that romanticizes drug addiction, depression, and eating disorders. I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression for many years and seeing people treat Josh like this makes me really sad.
Of course I am not generalizing the whole bandom. Many of you are super cool and I am so grateful that you are reblogging and liking my posts (even though they’re pretty fucking stupid). I just believe it’s about time something was done. I’m not sure exactly what to do; I’ve tried contacting him via Twitter but he hasn’t responded. I really want to help him, but I know that’s not my job.
My advice at the moment is to not expose Josh’s insecurities in any way. If you want to tweet him or talk to him after a concert, ask yourself “is this something he would be comfortable with?”. The same goes with any other mtrench related accounts (the official account, Matt Webb’s account, Sara Ramsay’s account, etc). I believe that we can show Josh just how much we care for him. We might not be able to cure his insecurities, but we can make him feel a little bit more at home in the trencher community.
