it’s crazy that people think “women can be bad/evil too” is like a revolutionary new take that now needs to be said because feminism (which in their minds is “women are good”) has successfully run its course and and we need to swing back in the other direction to restore balance or something. as if the idea that women are evil wicked slutty resentful conniving gold-digging liars who take advantage of society’s sympathy towards them to manipulate situations to their advantage and fuck men over hasn’t been like a core tenant of misogyny since the dawn of civilization

sorry but i’ve decided i’m not going to shut up about the implications of the depp vs heard spectacle. it’s genuinely frightening how this is radicalizing people into thinking the legal system is FAVORED on the side of women naming their abusers and rapists when that could not be further from the truth. i’ve seen more incel propaganda repeated word for word in the last few weeks than i’ve seen in years. please PLEASE use your brains. this is bigger than stanning a single celebrity and hoping they ‘win’. Me Too, despite being localized around abuse in hollywood, had a measurable impact on how victims were treated outside of that sphere of power. this case and how people are reacting to it online will also have an impact. it’s just all so incredibly irresponsible.

I haven’t been keeping up because honestly it’s too close time-wise to my own assault/harassment, but a quick reminder that cases of abuse are rarely ever black and white. They exist in grey areas and in relationships. The myth of abuse coming only from [people who jump out at you from a bush] does most survivors of abuse an injustice. It almost always happens with someone you know, trust, and even love. I urge people to keep that in mind as they ridicule someone’s account of relational abuse.

Hot take but rigid divisions between queer identities and heavily-policed labels that are treated like diagnoses are really, really bad.

Trans men have shared histories with lesbians who have shared histories with bisexual women who have shared histories with ace people who have shared histories with aro people have shared histories with gay men who have shared histories with trans women who have shared histories with nonbinary people who have shared histories with etc etc etc etc etc.

Labels are important for people who want them, but we need to stop treating sexuality and gender as rigid boxes and checklists.
