This scene gave me ALL sorts of emotions. I absolutely love the way they connected Caecilius (Peter’s first role in Doctor Who -S4) and the 12th Doctors exact appearances. I absolutely love they didnt just ignore it or connected it in an awful way. I thought they did it brilliantly. In ‘The Fires Of Pompeii’ Ten is forced to let Pompeii go down because it was a fixed point in time but then there was Donna, who told him just because he cant do anything doesn’t mean he cant spare a few lives, she opened his eyes, made him realize it was possible to save people. And I think that stuck with the Doctor, the despair in Donna’s face and voice, the relief and feeling he saved a family from the fires. And he never forgot their faces. He never forgot them which is why when he regenerated into 12 somewhere in his mind was that family and he regenerated into Caecilius’ appearance. It was a reminder, like he said, that is possible to save people even if the situation seems completely impossible. I think this was brilliant and beautiful.
