Takayuki doesn’t expect the hug, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t joyous when he gets it. Masaharu’s weight on him isn’t anything new, and he laughs as his own arms wrap around the other man’s middle to hold him close.
“Why do you sound so surprised?” he asks, tilting his head back to allow Masaharu to tuck his head in the crook between his neck and shoulder. One hand moves up, ruffling lightly through Masaharu’s short cropped hair.
Teasing, Takayuki’s lips brush against his temple as he whispers, “I should tell you I love you more if you didn’t see that coming a mile way.”
“You should tell me you love me more just because,” Masaharu playfully grumbles, voice muffled by the way his face is nuzzled up against his neck.
Even despite the surprise at Takayuki’s sincere response, Kaito does know that it shouldn’t be such a shock. His partner’s done and said nothing to make him think that there’s nothing but this continuing in their future.
But then, Masaharu’s always nervous when it comes to love. Sure, Mikiko had broken his heart years back, but he’s learned to be grateful that it had happened. He’s able to be Takayuki’s because she had walked away, but that didn’t stop the subconscious worry that things aren’t as amazing as he thinks they are.
