A very special box arrived in #longsightlibrary this week! It contains 30 books about Nature, Growing, Cooking and Food Justice written by writers identifying as Black, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC) From bedtime stories, to teen novels, to poetry, to practical gardening guides, to cooking books, to theory... Can't wait for the launch which is Saturday 5th October as part of the library's digital Fun Palace. Friend and volunteer Amy Lawrence is looking to find a Black family household living in Yorkshire to collaborate in a series of online/phone conversations with her and explore softness, love and intimacy. If you are that family or you know anybody who might be then please get in touch! You can DM @_a_lawrence or email [email protected] or Amy can arrange a phone call. There is money for access support available including things like phone credit. Also there is an honorarium of £300 to support taking part, plus ££ for a big meal at the end. Alternative payment arrangements can be made for people who have Universal Credit as part of their income and prefer this. Sharing this message about tomorrow's gathering in Longsight: "A church in Longsight has been targeted by racists. It is a black congregation who do lovely stuff in the area. Their minibus was smashed to bits and graffitied with ‘all lives matter’ . We are holding a gathering to stand up to the racists at 2.30 this Sunday outside the church which is on Rushford Street. Come and show solidarity M12, 4UG. Socially distanced with masks please, all welcome. We are horrified by the murder of George Floyd and the violence inflicted on those protesting and mourning his death. We stand in solidarity with the black community and unequivocally support the Black Lives Matter campaign. Those of us who are able to will be joining the march at Piccadilly Gardens (Manchester) on Saturday 6th June, from 1pm.  Please bring masks, gloves, food, water, stay 2m away from people who are not part of your household, and wear non identifiable clothing to stay safe.
