Finals are here and the end of semester 4/30/14

I can't believe finals are here and the end of another semester. I have really enjoyed the class  and the students. I have really enjoyed reading these books. I have also learned how to read different styles of book and somewhat write a critical analyze on the different styles of story tell. I have Amber Clark to thank for helping me better understand post-modernism and how they are written. She has gave me a lot of inspiration. She is an excellant teacher and i would like to thank her for keeping me motivated, and giving me reason to keep going on plus always telling me I can do better. Thanks for a great semester and helping  me out when i really needed it Good Luck everyone on the final

I can’t believe finals are next week!! Then graduation!! Whoot!! No class today because of this nasty weather, so before work tonight, I will be reviewing the study guide. Me and Kristen finished the Goon Squad part of the review in class Monday, all I have left is the questions for The Road....

I agree with you about the class and the books we read were really good but different from what i have read. I think Amber Clark is a great teacher,  she has taught me such about writing essays plus learning to read this style of books. I could not have done it with out her help. i have also done half the study guide but know both books pretty good too. Good luck everyone.....

I started watching the movie this weekend but fell asleep. Has anyone started comparing the movie with the book. I got about half way through the movie and I seen a few things that were different that I really liked. Since I really enjoyed the book, I have decided to write my paper on it for next...

I have watched the whole movie and there are a few differences than the book. I really liked being able to watch the movie because it helped me get a better visual of everything going on in the book as well as the movie. I am writing about this book to. Once we started going over the book in class I got a better perspective on the whole story. I am going to write the same way it is much easier for me too do.

Finished the Road. 4/21/2014

I finished the book and watched the movie this weekend. I was hoping the dad was going to live but knew it was not happening because of blood coughing up. He put so much into trying to teach the boy how to survive and keeping him alive. That just goes to show how parents think when it comes to caring for their children. The book it self brought light to me that this could happen. What and how would we do to survive in a catastrophe like this. The man did all he could do to keep them alive plus worrying about everything else. There are time in the book that offer some hope . But then something else will happen bad. After getting into this book I enjoyed reading it . The movie helped me visualize some of the parts by seeing the people and the settings. It help put a lot together for me.

I thought the ending to a visit from the good squad would have pulled all of the characters together and have a resolution, however it did not have an ending like I was expecting. I did not like the last chapter because it left a lot of questions still unanswered. I did like how chapter...

I agree with you about the ending to this book, it was not what i was expecting either. It has no resolution and the characters did not come together like I expected them to. I did however like the way chapter 12 was presented through power points and describing how she feels about her family . I do not  think this book has a  resolution or a plot to it. I have read the first 110 pages of  "THE ROAD". I am just now starting to get into the book.

Finished A Visit to Goon Squad 4/11/14

I have to say this book was very confusing, by the way it jumps around so much. I was impressed with chapter 12 power points. It was really interesting how the girl told her story about the family by using the power point presentation. Now chapter 13 i did not like at all. It had no ending or resolution like i thought it was going to have. The structure of this  book  is definitely postmodern. Also the way the book jumps around from one chapter to the next  with different people telling there stories is another sign. There are no strengths in this book to me. The weakness is the structure and way the book is put together.

As I’m reading “A Visit from the goon squad,” all I can think about is the A.D.D. Jennifer Egan has. Someone get this woman some aderall or Ritalin! She’s not helping those who suffer with a.d.d. with all these stories jumping around. It’s not a bad book, but honestly I don’t understand why she wouldn’t just write a bunch of different books rather than one with a million stories jumping around…and I thought I was scatter-brained…may The Lord be with her…

The book is very interesting content wise. But the structure makes it even more interesting. Books have a hard time keeping my attention because i absolutely hate reading!! But Egan seems to do a great job keeping me interested. I guess the structure is just a way that she could be sure that this book is different and has that postmodern feel. That’s the only explanation I can think of for the chapters being so crazy and bouncing all over the place!

Personally, I feel ADHD describes this book perfectly.  I am tired of bouncing from character to character.  I have no idea what the plot is and therefore; there is no structure to the story.  I like the last book much better.  I am hoping the final novel, “The Roads” is much better. I do not like bouncing from character to character and present to past, to future all in one chapter.  I agree with you totally on this book. It tends to jump around way to much for me too. ADD is a good way to descibe it. I also hate reading too cause it is so hard for me to comprehend. I can not figure out the plot either,I think it is because of the way she wrote the book too and like you said jumping from character to character too. I am also hoping that the "The Road " is a better one to read too. I ready to move on to it to see what it is about.

A visit from the goon squad 4/3/14

I am not really sure about this book. I liked the last one better because it kept you on your seat wanting to know what was going to happen next. This one seems to drag a little bit for me .It also reminds me of postmoderism because of the way it jumps around so much. It just confuses me really bad when one minute they are in the safari and the next they are talking about scotty visiting bennie in his office taking him a fish. Then story goes back in time where they are partying a bar. I guess I am use to traditional stories. I guess it is good to have change sometimes in your life, to make you pay better attention to what is important and keep you interested in your studies at school. It also makes you pay better attention to what is going on in life.

Midterm 3/24/14

I just wanted to say I was not to sure about the midterm at first but after i got into it a little more I thought different. Some of the questions were a little confusing. I think i am coming to a lot better understanding of what postmodernism is now. Sometimes i just think it is the opposite of normal. Kinda like crazy, out of context  and out of balance when it comes to certain readings and other things to. If someone would like to clarify better or give their opinion on this i would be grateful. Back to the midterm, some question just did not make since to me so it made it a little hard for me cause i have a really bad comprehension problem. I would like it if we got to review a little more. I know it would help me and probably some other people to. I do know we ran out of time but still would like it if possible.

A Visit from the Goon Squad:

I can definitely tell the the new novel we are reading is a postmodern work. Reading from chapter to chapter you realize that almost every chapter has a different persons point of view and almost every chapter is it’s own story. It’s really strange. I don’t know if it’s all supposed to tie together in the end or what. So far I have two chapters left and I’m interested to see if it does all tie together. To me, the picture above represents the plot perfectly so far!!

I feel the same way about how this book is going and it is definitely postmodernism. I have noticed in the first five chapters that each chapter has a different persons point of view. I very interested  to see how it all comes together at the end. Yes your picture does state that too.

Ready for Spring Break 3/11/2014

This week has been full of alot of stress because of these exams and work. I have been studying since Sunday night. I get most of this except the postmodernism.  I still am not to sure about what it truely means and how it changes the meaning of a story. If anyone can explain it better, please do. I have read alot of handouts plus looking it up to but still a little confused about the true meaning. Thanks. I am asking for a little bit of prayers for my midterm. I think I have it but still a little struggle. Everybody's blogs has helped alot with studying and just understanding certain issue in some of the stories I have read. I agree with you on the postmodernism. I still am not sure what all it is  about. One day I think i have it and then something new comes up in the story that throws me off. If someone explains it to you and you get it, please relay the message to me cause I feel lost again.

Mr. Ski Instructor says, “If you wait until the last minute to study for your mid-term it will haunt you like if you skied down the expert slope without ever learning/practicing to ski.”  If you haven’t started yet, it is not to late to catch the review train as it pulls out of the station heading towards the Wednesday Mid-term.  If you wait until the last minute to study, you will need to mop up your brain that exploded from lack of info on each story’s plot.  The questions have been laid out before you.  Take advantage and STUDY!!!!!!!!!!!!  I am.

Finishing Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close 3/3/14

I am sad we are coming to a close on this book. I could not wait to find out what Oskar was going to do next. He was always so sneaky about what he was going to do next. He also has shown me that everyone deals with loss differently. Also they can ablout grieve themselves to death to.I also saw alot of determination in him. For example: trying to find out about what the key represented and what it had to do with his father. I thought it was an all around good book, even thought it jumped from one story to another. It kept me interested and wanting to know how it was going to end. I cant wait to get into next book. Hope it is as good as this one. Learning alot about post-modernism and what it pertains to in each book.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close 2/27/2014

I have to say I have really enjoyed this book. Everytime I get in my car I listen to it. It keeps you want to know what is going to happen next. Yes, it has its ups and down parts along with the good and bad too. It does jump from one place to another but that is what keeps it interesting for me. I am always wonder what Oskar is going to do next . But the way the book jumps from one story to another you never know. One minute you are reading about Oskars hunt for the key and then you are reading letters from his grandmother. One part your read about the bombs being dropped on a town of innocent people & some Nazis. After that you go back to reading about what Oskar is up to next. I have listened to the book till the end. I will stop here.
